Lad nextdoor in Ireland home for the weekend and notified that he is a contact from a confirmed case, as a result of a car journey a few days ago.

Household confined for a fortnight to see if he brews up.

Confirmed case was detected in Austria.
Both principal neighbouring households are now locked away, as she discovered when she asked the one that was still thought to be 'free' to drop some milk at some point.

Someone she doesn't know has just tapped the window and gone away before she opened the door, to find a bottle there.

From the description, I think I know who it was, so she now has something to do, keeping accounts to settle up at some point in the future.

The Guards have thrown all the current trainees out into the wild, so the College can be adapted for emergency use - and hired them a car each to provide contact for the 'vulnerable and isolated'.

most shop assistants will be out there for as much overtime money they can get whilst theres a chance to cash in.
Not on the same level as emergency services by any stretch of the imagination.

Not everyone has a choice whether to work from home, some people just get up in the morning and get on with it.
I personally am extremely grateful to everyone keeping it together at the moment.
Let’s face it, if the shop/supermarket workers decided en masse, to put their own health first instead of their job and didn’t turn up for work then we’d be in a bigger mess than we are already.
No food on the shelves, doesn’t bear thinking about.
These workers have no idea who they are in close contact with on a daily basis: possibly virus carrying, germ riddled public, touching stuff etc.

I’d like to thank each and every one of the shop workers for doing a great job in difficult circumstances.

i agree they are doing their jobs to the best of their ability im sure .
everyone who can is doing what they can , more so the emergency services and care workers / support staff. i'm just putting it into the proper prospective.

Standing over someone to make sure they dont steal something at the self service till is hardly ' front line' though really .
secondly, its great that you say shop workers have to work and have no choice without putting their own health first but isnt that counterproductive as thats what is causing this virus to spread ?

i am sure theres some that will take it on the chin to help others without wanting or needing the recognition and i support those people gratefully , but this is the real world and most will be doing it til they fall ill themselves because they have to or want the extra money , not for the greater good.

I walked past a butchers and greengrocers yesterday. They had lots of food. I think everyone is going straight to the supermarkets and forgetting that local shops will be very well stocked.

I agree , in fact ive managed to get most of my supplies this way.
unfortunately for some in society, they simply cannot afford to buy from these places with money being so tight. its those people i feel will suffer more.

I have already had someone urging me -"From panic to donations. Everyone on the planet being asked to donate to Covid 19 vaccine. Do Not Donate, Stop the Panic. And, Do Not Allow Yourself to be Vaccinated."

For essential supplies, Joule's Brewery are making home deliveries in the Market Drayton area and the Izaak Walton Brewhouse are making home deliveries in Eccleshall, Stone, Lichfield and surrounding areas.

Star in Penkridge is acting as a collection point for donations to food packs for those who cannot get out to shop & the Four Ashes at Four Ashes is distributing food packs to over 70s who are restricted to home. The Royal Exchange in Stone now has trays of bottled Titanic beers for off-sales.

Just spent an "interesting" last 12 hours or so trying to help my daughter extricate herself from Belize.

Initially she was trying to bring her flights back to Canada forward 7 days to this Wednesday at no extra cost. When it seemed likely she'll have to pay again, the options opened-up a bit and she's now booked herself on another airline.

Now she's worrying about the queues at US airports - she's going via Houston. Hopefully the checks won't be as stringent a) because she's not stopping in the US, and b) because the region she's come from isn't "high risk" and the authorities will be concentrating on checking travellers from Europe rather than Central America.

Fingers crossed.
Just to round this one off, my daughter's got herself back into Canada.

In the end she returned 8 days early from her holiday, setting off yesterday and going via Houston and San Francisco. She didn't mention any problems with queues in the US so presumably they were not unreasonable, and said she got through passport control in Vancouver 5 minutes before the deadline i.e. around 8:55am local time (just over an hour ago) so I'm off now to look up what the regs are saying.

Of course, she now has the problem of getting a job, so we're half expecting her to be back in the UK anyway where she can live with us for free.

@Carole I agree with you 100%.
Personally I'm so glad I do the job I do right now. At least I only have to put up with relatives, tho I do wish I could work from home right now.
I've seen shoppers in Sainsburys blaming the staff on the tills for there being nothing on the shelves, all the while having 6 or 7 mahoosive bags of shopping in their trolleys. And all the time, they have to be curteous and bite their tongues while being spoken to like they're muck.

I've spent the last hour or so gathering up the Ibroprufen, that's now all in a box behind the general medicine, the problem I now have is that I didn't panic buy and when I did decide to get a few supplies ibuprofen was pretty much all that was left in the shops, now I'm back to square one and on the hunt for Calpol.

There were painkillers that contain paracetamol such as co-codamol, anadin extra and panadol in Greengate Street Superdrug this morning. Not sure if these are ok with the virus or not.

Also the newsagent next to Ladbrokes had loo rolls but was limiting to one pack per customer.

I'm not planning on going anywhere soon but if I do I could pick some up for you and drop them off if there's any left.

As there were no boxes of paracetamol left (at Wildwood Co-Op), we grabbed a couple of boxes of Lemsip.

I went to get cat litter this morning at B & M, they have lots of stock of tinned goods, soups, veg, Fray Bentos pies (perish the thought), lots of jars of sauces etc, a good supply of medicine (although no paracetamol), in fact they seemed well stocked on most things apart from loo roll - but if it's anything like where I work we have delivery's of it twice a day, but stock is stripped within 15 minutes of it being put out.
