The main problem is that our esteemed leader used the words irreversible. If he'd been honest (I'm not sure he understands the meaning of the word) the public would be much more on board. Does anyone honestly think that 21st June will be the end of all things social distancing?

If people are going to believe any words that Johnson utters, then they have no sympathy from me.

There was a time, a long time ago, when we were going to beat this virus in twelve weeks.

He is a professional liar - unfortunately, he has a large and willing audience - and the knowledge that he is personally immune from any consequences..

This thread has some interesting predictions about vaccines, variants and what the immediate future may look like, from a qualified source:

"TLDR: the Indian variant needs to trigger surge testing in England. And India needs to be on red list."
I have seen it suggested that Pakistan, which is on the Red List, has rather lower figures than India, but India has the benefit of an impending trade mission from the UK, intending to paper over the trade collapse we've seen lately.

Who knows what is true any more - if anything is.

Glad to hear! Hopefully my folks will be getting their second jabs next week, too, as it will have been 12 weeks although they've not had the call yet.

I reckon I'll be getting my first around June, maybe late May if I'm lucky.

I'd get them to ring GP and check ,if first one was booked through them, as it's so close to the 12 weeks.

I'd missed a call from a 'private number' and turned out to be my surgery about the 1st jab. They didn't ring me back at all , and it's only the folks on here advising me to ring GP surgery the next day to check if it had been them trying to get hold of me that I rang them.
It had been them , they hadn't called me back or left a message at all. Luckily I did dare to ring (thinking I was being a nuisance) as I rang around 9.30 am and my appointment was still booked in for me at 11.05am that same morning at the Showground.

Same happened to my neighbour. She missed a call that same day as me, and only rang them the next day when I told her about mine. Hers was that same afternoon too , but no-one had rung her back either.

Had first jab at the showground but stepson booked us all in at Kingston Centre for our second jabs on 1st May. Two days later the surgery phoned to book our second jabs, but were quite happy that we were already booked.

I thought it was Pfizer at showground and AZ at Kingston.

The Showground do both. I had the Pfizer on Thurs 11th Feb and just been allocated 2nd on Thurs 29th April.
They are also doing the Pfizer on Sat 1st May.

Hubby had AstraZeneca 1st jab at Showground 4 days after my 1st Pfizer.

Showground was closed up , no sign of vaccinations taking place there today when I drove past this morning.

Hubby has been contacted by GP surgery to make his 2nd AstraZeneca for tomorrow at the showground (10 wks & 2 days after 1st) .

He's got in before me now, my Pfizer's there on Thursday (11 weeks) .

I'd rung the surgery about mine after seeing an entry on my medical records last week but not hearing from them, and got my appt in whilst on the phone.

My neighbour who had her 1st the same day as me , same GP & vaccination venue, still hadn't heard anything this afternoon. She was going to wait until thursday to ring the surgery. I urged her to ring today. They were surprised she hadn't been contacted, and had no Pfizer appointments left at the showground now until 6th May. That's smack on the 12 weeks she's having it. Good job she listened to me and rang today , or might have missed the 12 weeks deadline!
