Coronavirus.

The annoying thing about not testing is that I’ve been in bed with a high temp, headache, fatigue and no appetite since Friday lunchtime. I am rarely ill, I’ve had actual flu once in my life and this isn’t flu - it’s not as bad as flu. I haven’t been in contact with any known carriers but my commute to work takes me through New Street and Birmingham International so obviously crossing paths with people from all over. Mr B and my boss both had similar symptoms about 10 days ago but then the advice was only to be concerned if you’d been overseas or been in contact with someone who’d tested positive. So neither thought to get tested.

I was scoffing at the idea of having coronavirus until I read Mikel Arteta’s wife’s account of his illness - no cough. So maybe I do, or maybe I don’t. But at least if I knew for certain that I DID then I could make myself useful to others who end up isolated because I should have a degree of immunity. It seems shortsighted not to test to confirm when people have symptoms so they can be mobilised upon recovery to help people who get it further down the line.

Anyway, temp and headache receded after a couple of days, the exhaustion is ongoing and the only plus side is the lack of appetite! I’ve not hugged my kids in 3 days :(

I wonder if there may be different individual levels of reaction - I've had many, many colds, a few real flus and a large number of bacterial throat infections, without ever having an illness characterised by a cough - sore throat, snot, sneezing and blocked ears and sinuses are my specialities.

Just spent an "interesting" last 12 hours or so trying to help my daughter extricate herself from Belize.

Initially she was trying to bring her flights back to Canada forward 7 days to this Wednesday at no extra cost. When it seemed likely she'll have to pay again, the options opened-up a bit and she's now booked herself on another airline.

Now she's worrying about the queues at US airports - she's going via Houston. Hopefully the checks won't be as stringent a) because she's not stopping in the US, and b) because the region she's come from isn't "high risk" and the authorities will be concentrating on checking travellers from Europe rather than Central America.

Fingers crossed.

I entered the UK yesterday to zero 'security' - four people standing around, only two even looking at the entrants, no interaction of any sort.

Well that was handy, 80% ethanol in the shed and some glycerine,
a spray bottle that had screen wash in it and I have loads of hand sanitiser spray, just as well as there was NONE left in the shops

Lad nextdoor in Ireland home for the weekend and notified that he is a contact from a confirmed case, as a result of a car journey a few days ago.

Household confined for a fortnight to see if he brews up.

Confirmed case was detected in Austria.

So JCB HQ in Rocester have been asked by Bojo to clear production lines to produce ventilators

...Wonder if they will come in yellow

...time to worry is when they ask for more diggers :o

... ps, i can almost see my old house from that photo :P

I was generally on board with the govt approach but this ventilator thing has me seriously scratching my head. There’s no spec available and I’ve read ventilators have to be inspected and signed off for use but no arrangements put in place. How can machinery be adapted if there’s no design specification available publicly so manufacturers can assess their ability to produce them? It seems like very hollow words

True to form, the guys on the Football 365 forum are putting together a "Now That's What I Call Coronavirus" playlist. (I'll post the list when it settles down.)

Will take quite a while to build up stocks even if the trials are successful. They are keeping very quiet about the tests on anti-retroviral drugs which are already available to some extent if they prove effective.
The ones that were created by Cuba and Venezuela collaborating? The US won’t like that one bit.
