Met my friend in town today, she has had her quality Specialised mountain bike stolen from the bike racks outside Cafe Nero so was staking out the bikes and racks in town to see if she could spot her bike or any thieves around.
Anyways, during the process of dealing with the police and doing all the reports it's transpired that Stafford is undergoing an epidemic of cycle theft, mainly down to a few junkies. The police know who is doing it but haven't managed to catch them in the act or with the evidence. She has posted her bike pics on Stafford Car Boot FB page where the scale of the issue is obvious
So, if you do lock your bike up in town it might be wise to double lock or even treble lock your prized possession. Just a brief scan of the bikes locked up outside the old Post Office today showed that people seem to be happy to invest hundreds of pounds in a bike but then lock it up with a lock from Poundland!!
