Deshi Khana Indian Restaurant

I've been in twice recently and although I have no complaints about the service the food was just... meh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly flavoursome either. Just your average inoffensive curry.

It is quite perturbing when you're picking fresh ingredients out of your curry like cardamom pods and cinnamon bark but you can't taste it.

Nirvarna still tops for me.

Hi Amir,

It's great to have representatives of local business on the forum - as its often the only way for you to get feedback like this.... I wonder if take aways / restaurants realise how off-putting a BOGOF deal is to those who just want a meal for 1 :(

I have often used your restaurant for a take-away for myself during the week, but now I won't - because I don't want to feel that I'm losing out now that I know you're offering 2 meals for the price of 1 to those who are dining in. Further, even if you extended the offer to take-out, you would still lose my business over this offer because I don't want 2 meals - I just want to pay good value for 1 meal!

I can see BOGOF working when the majority of your clientèle are on expenses - so single covers don't care because they're not paying for it themselves - but I'm pretty sure most people passing a take-away wanting a meal for one aren't!

There are now signs on all the windows saying something along the lines of "Restaurant for lease - ready to go" etc. What next for the Castle Tavern?!

Been up a couple of days now. Shame, but there was never a queue out the door for the place. On a good night you could always see loads of empty tables.

it was lovely food, but there is just so much choice in stafford for indian food that you really do need a USP to get away with a restaurant that size - especially in a less than ideal location.. not to mention you're already fighting a losing battle, because you're in the same town as Narvana, the best curry in the land..

i'm sad to see it go, and they were lovely chaps that ran the place, but not unexpected tbh :(

i'd love to see something successful done with the place.. a big ol' mexican would be amazing!*

Ordinarily, I wouldn't be provoked, but I wonder if this sort of thing might be about to appear in Llandudno?

Great shame, only 'proper' (IMO) Murghi Masala I've had since The Ganges in Rugeley 30 odd (very odd) years ago.

Went past there tonight. Lights on, stuff happening. Sign promising that a new Indian restaurant is opening soon. Nothing daunted.

I was only thinking that what Stafford really needs is a few more Indian restaurants. In the same way that Newport could do with some more card shops. Though in fairness, that did provide the entertaining spectacle of two rival card sellers engaged in fisticuffs in the high street.

A new business is a new business and as its almost on my doorstep I'd rather have that than an empty premise or another pub lost to flats conversion.

Yep, new place appearing in place of the older Indian restaurant... no consideration for the locals - working late at night with drills and other power tools being one such complaint but my biggest one is paint all over the pavements and my car, which was unfortunately parked in the spot nearest to the building and is now covered in small spots of oversprayed paint which will not budge. My attempts to complain fell on deaf ears as the guy we spoke to wasn't fluent in English - at first he thought we were complaining about where he'd parked his car, then was oblivious to the mess my car was in, and finally offered to clean it up "if you bring cold water" and pick it off - making my already damaged paintwork worse in the process, I don't want to replace white spots with shiny metal scratches!
Oh, and he didn't know who his boss was as he'd only started working there yesterday.

I'll be writing a letter to formally complain to the guy, not even the noisy Greek restaurant was this bad. And these new guys haven't even opened for business yet!

Is it still owned by Raj? Not that I can remember where his offices are, think they used to be near Back 2 Bikes?

I noticed they'd given the pavements a good coat, as per last time, when I walked past earlier. I'm pretty sure the people who painted are, yet again, contracted by the owner of the building and not the new peeps. I can give you their full details.

Not to worry. With an attitude like that then they probably will last even less time than the previous bunch.
