I voted in a football-related social club...

There is no reason to be shutting schools for this, it's not even frosty...

Too true. I remember helping to clear a church hall out when I was about 8, prior to it being sold. That smelt the same too; I wonder if it's something they put in the paint?

Campaigners try to outlaw William. Guardian article from 1999.
If anyone has any William books printed since about 2001, I'd very much like a read of them to see if I can spot any alterations. (Not because I haven't owned copies for damn near fifteen years and now am missing them immensely, oh no...)

One story that has been omitted is William and the Nasties, a racist 1935 yarn in which the Outlaws emulate Hitler by persecuting Mr Isaacs, a stingy, hook-nosed Jewish sweet shop owner.
I remember this one, but I think that most of us knew that is was a parable.

There are many Englishmen who have never seen a Jew and they picture one as some sort of “weird†creature with horns?
He's done some real in-depth research here, then?

( I know it's out of context! )

Poor turnout but I wonder how that compares to usual given the expenses scandals of late.

For Stafford Central last time turnout was 63% so quite a difference. Last time Labour got 45% of the vote down to 29% this time. Interestingly swing to the Tories to get the seat not that much - 26% up to 30%.

Following that link, Labour got 18% of the vote and 3 seats, whereas UKIP got 10% of the vote and 4 seats. Seems weird when you look at it that way!

I can understand what you are saying Goldilox, I know people who would say "oh you don't want to vote for them long haired, stinky greens, trying to ban cars and eating beef" but then people like that are stupid anyway. I think people should be proud of who they vote for, TBH I can see a lot of sense in what the Greens are all about..
I know someone who boycotts a particular shop because the owner is a counciller for a party he doesn't like (other than the BNP which would be more understandable) so, although personally I've always held the belief that there's room for opposing political views in a democracy, I'm cautious about revealing my colours just in case people might feel a similar reaction to my own beliefs.

Congratulations to Mark. I'm sure he'll do a magnificent job.

I'm somewhat shocked that, given Sofa's larger than life personality and presence in stafford's artier side, he got fewer votes than the BNP guy.
