Me I'm, A RH positive, :rich: but they don't want mine any more, just because
I got a battery pack to pump it round, still I made it to 8o donations so not bad.

Just had a text from the National Blood Service informing me that my last donation, a few weeks ago, has just been squirted into somebody in Hampshire.

I hope they feel suitably honoured.

I lived there for a couple of years - I wonder if I know them..?
Oh that's fantastic!

Blood was removed today. I actually read the Important Safety Information note.

"If bleeding recurs, sit down, raise your arm and press on the donation site for at least five minutes."

Mmm, not very practical. I don't see how pressing on the donation site is supposed to help. It took ages to get there today in the traffic. I'm not going all the way back there with blood squirting out and how am I supposed to change gear with my left arm up in the air?

Enjoying a drop of red.

I just recently started donating, I have my second donation on Monday, I'm aiming for 200... if I last that long. I'm A- which is apparently in high demand. Has anyone donated platelets? I received a letter about that but I'd have to go somewhere in Birmingham to donate them and it takes 3 hours or so.

You can (or could) do platelets in Stoke, just across from Festival Park - but, make sure that they tell you the full rules before your first visit.

I went, after receiving an appointment and, only because I read a poster on the wall whilst they went off to look for the right kit, did they, after some discussion, realise that I was not actually eligible. I was quite surprised, as, if I hadn't raised the point, they wouldn't have bothered about it - and it is all they do there - just extracting blood products....

If you do do the platelets in Stoke, then they have wi-fi, to help you pass the time.

Do your best and, one day, you may graduate to A+, like the best of us are...

Another text just now to say that some lucky person in Gloucester is also now a blood relative.

Oddly, I used to live near there, as well - I wonder if they have a Local Blood For Local People policy?

@citricsquid I donate platelets in Stoke and have done for 5 years. I'm AB+ so there isn't massive demand but go every 1-3 months, if your blood group is in demand you could donate as much as every 2weeks.

They will do a test of your blood to see if it is suitable which I believe is down to the Platelet count and that's ok they'll get you back for a first donation. It doesn't take 3 hours, my donations take a fair amount of time at 75 minutes and there's the setup time before hand so you're looking at 2 hours max.

The blood centre in Stoke is split between Platelet and whole blood with platelets being done on Monday and Wednesday with the final donation appointments starting at 7.15pm.

Have a look at their details and give them a call to discuss being tested

Let know if you want any more info!

I've never used it.

There is a For Sale sign at the moment, but that is only about the ultimate ownership of the site, it will continue as it is, whoever owns it.
The wifi is around 0.3mbps .... every time I'm there I hope they've given it a good kick but alas no...

I wonder if Enoch Powell was a donor ?......
He may be seen as an early proposer of the Care in the Community policy, back when he was Health Minister and gave another of his famous speeches - the Brooding Water Towers And Chimneys one.
