Time to give the local vampire section another pint, Sunday 3rd of Feb Stafford rangers.
Just watch out for the pale nurses attending you, and whatever you do don't let them snog you.

I will make another attempt. I must remember my earplugs to avoid the Smooth FM torture...

There's blood vans outside the Rangers today, if you feel that you have an excess that you would like removing.

Darn I missed it. Teeny bit annoying they can never fit me in for an appointment no matter how wide I make the available times, even weeks in advance - It's always a case of turn up and hope I'm not waiting too long. Especially when they keep posting on Facebook saying they need O- urgently!

Ah well, next one at the Rangers ground seems to be Monday 13 May 2013 - Added to the diary, lets see if they can fit me in this time! :?:

The 'appointment' system is a complete fiasco.

They are running a clinical trial to investigate different donation frequencies - even though the information seems to be already widely available around the world - this means using the permanent blood doning centre in Stoke, by Festival Park - but it might mean that appointments have a little more reality about them..

My frequency is basically if I can get in and out on a Monday session without taking the P with time out of the office I'll do it, which is why the "just drop by!" response is a little too uncertain for me to go for.

Not to mention sitting in the cramped waiting area twiddling thumbs for who knows how long isn't the greatest way to spend a chunk of the day! :P

Indeed - I spent eighteen minutes on the bed last time - before I was even pierced - I was nearly asleep, it's a wonder any came out at all..

They claim to 'urgently need' your weirdo blood - http://www.blood.co.uk/index.asp - ring 'em up and tell 'em they can have it, if they'll give you a real time..?

Yeah I'll see if their website dealio lets me book an appointment this time if not I'll ring in
..Though their phone lines compared with getting through to a human at <insert any utility provider here> when I had to tell them they might need to ditch my pint due to illness shortly after donating

Can't complain too much though really, anyone who gives free biscuits is forgiven for all faults in my books!

O- and B- blood particularly required, if you have any - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-26577766 .

Session at the Rangers on Tuesday - https://my.blood.co.uk/SessionFinder .

Alsa they will no longer take my B- blood on the grounds of my age & some of the medicines I take. Didn't used to go to the regular sessions, was called into the Centre when they needed the odd pint, usually 3 or 4 times a years, when the hospital had a big op on someone with the group. Bit worrying if I need any now.

I got bounced for low iron yesterday - I'm always a bit borderline, but I've never been this low - so low that they've struck me off for a year and made me swear to see the GP, which I've just done. Odd thing is that I normally can tell when I'm going to get a 'floater' and have to go through the machine - this time I felt spot on - I wonder if the measurement is right.

I had a tiny undershoot last year, so I read the leaflet and have done all the suggested remedies - it was OK until now - I thought I was well in.

GP was not very impressed - "they pull it out of you and expect us to fix it" - surprised me a bit, that did....

Got a box of iron pills now and have to be measured again in a month.

I'm not entirely sure that I understand any of that...

....but ((hugs)) feel better soon - even if you feel well!

The daft Dr scared me today by leaving me messages to contact them urgently....turns out I missed my 6monthly diabetic appt (the one I tried to make last September, but was told by the bulldog receptionist that I didn't need an appt until March this year) - so now I'm in the bad books, *sigh

Do you give blood every year? I've never been alowed to as I'm anemic but unable to take iron

I think it's good for you - we're meant to be getting little cuts every day, running through the savannah with leopards chasing us. It's like an exercise plan for your bone marrow.

I only ever found out what blood group I was after receiving my little booklet thingy saying I'd given blood.

I feel sick and faint at the sight of needles, but used to give it when the van visited Gec Measurements (good excuse to get out of work for a lie down and a biscuit... ). Once they wouldn't take it as I'd had paracetamol that morning for a hangover , and another time I passed out when they started, so they stopped . Just hoping they used that little drop that time to make all the drama worthwhile :embarrass:

Can no longer give it though because of the medication I'm on.
