Flash Mob!

Ahh, genius idea. Definitely up for some of this.

Here's my lamo ideas:

Spontaneous tea party - whip out a thermos, tea cup and scone
Umbrella fighting
Musical statues, but without the music (I dunno - signal with an air horn or something)
Bizarro rain dance (although I think we've had enough of that already)

I am also liking the pillow fighting and all this weirdness to do with badgers. Stafford - home of the mentally unstable :)

Just two of you stand in the middle of the market square and look up at the sky...pointing and then a few others join, and a few others......till a group appears, checkout how many other people star tlooking up.....i've tried this in Brum when I get board....it always works....if someone asks what we are looking at just say..."Can't you see it?" and then I think we should just all point to the sky in a kind of close encounters of the third kind styley......sounds good to me!!! :D
Like this idea! Or we could induce a stampede of some sort - bit like a relay. Fittest people at the back, people like me somewhere near the front of town and cascade with the first bunch running and screaming. Could you get arrested for this though as mass hysteria is contageous and before you know it half the population of Stafford could be running and screaming for their lives without knowing why.

We could incorporate this idea with the Stafford Forums 1st birthday in September, maybe give the 'nod' to the local press.

TOOOOOO many ideas, If every one has their own, nothing will ever get done.

I am up for it, but we need someone of genuine genius to decide, how we decide which one! (and NO I am not looking for the job.) For what it is worth I like Doc's idea. Market Square, human statues looking at the clock! It would be genuinely sppoky and surreal. Get someone o video it.

OMG! I've thought about doing this...

There's a Keele FlashMob who did the classic pillowfight thing, worshipping a statue and a hand gun fight (hand in the shape of a gun, "shoot" people, fall down and "die"). There's a Facebook group with links to photographic and video evidence.

Agreed - I like this idea too.

Is there anybody here who's got access to the CCTV recordings of Market Square and can "appropriate" a copy? ;)
Or, if the recordings are digital (which they probably are these days), can we request a copy under the Data Protection Act? :)

Stafford Borough Council runs the CCTV - think it might be difficult getting hold of footage though as we wouldn't have other people's permission to their image. Think it's a data protection thing, there must be a sign saying that they are recording for community safety purposes.

I think we should do this.

Only four moves to learn.

I'll have a look next time I go into town, which will be Thursday at the latest.
On Friday night, I'll look outside The Surgery on Crabbery Street where they have the big rotating camera - if I find a sign by any camera, it'll be that one :)

I went to a flash mob once.

Sadly I thought I was supposed to bring flashbang grenades. I spent the night in a cell for causing temporary blindness in a few people.

My bad...

Hi all.

Very interested in the flash mob plan for Stafford. After checking the flashmob website last year, I was most upset to find no events for stafford.

However, there are many "small" flashmob events that can be carried out.
For example. If everyone was to appear casually in the middle of the shopping centre, and then at a designated moment, everybody eats a banana.

not everything needs to be highly attention grabbing, many 'charming' flashmob events are subtle, for the pleasure of those involved...

However.... an alternative includes this little gem....

Please note... that last of the videos (there are about 6 little clips on that link)

Marvellous!!!

PS - Did anyone catch flashmob the opera last christmas?
A very well organised musical in a train station, Euston I think....

I think it has to be something that people would join in with, either due to social psychology (e.g. the last clip of that YouTube video) or because it's fun and easy to join in with (i.e. not everyone needs a prop).
