Having said that, it would be interesting if we had a Wyre Forest-esque Independent type affair whatsit.

So i've gone for Independent so long as etc

Its independent or spunking cock, I believe it would be unethical to vote for myself. I'll happily vote for an indie just to help them recover their money for standing (no idea how many votes needed for that?), but only if they actually stand for something worthwhile too.

So I'm going to say indie, with a side of spunk.

General Election deposit is currently £500 and you get it back if you get 5% of the votes.

Trouble is with independents is that no matter how well intentioned once they get into the Westminster village to take up their seat they lack clout.

Our Parliamentary system is based around majorities, block voting and party whips. If you had an independent representative with no colleague support when it comes to the big issues he/she can do little to influence the argument.

I'm no Tory or Le Fraud supporter but at least he does have a chance of rallying Tory chums like Cash, the bloke from Cannock Chase and others as to the Mid Staffs cause....

I willl not be following your tribal voting route.
I will vote on the qualities of the individual candidate.
I am looking for:-
Somebody who will sign a pledge for anything to get a vote.
Somebody who can argue that what's good for them is good for you.
Somebody who can talk earnestly for ten minutes and not answer the question.
Somebody who can swap side mid argument and nobody notice.
Somebody who can judge and say whatever his current audience wants to hear.
Somebody who can enjoy the 'Hospitality' of big business and lobbyists
Somebody who talks of change but changes nothing.

I know it's a big ask but if we can find a candidate with these qualites then at least we won't be dissapointed when he gets into office.

i haven't voted on this poll yet, as i don't know really.. i voted lib dem last time, but it does all seem a bit futile so i've lost my zeal for the "democratic" process of late :hmm:

harris is stepping down, you'll (hopefully) be glad to hear - so at least their party will have slightly more credibility in stafford now..

Or possibly tek-monkey...

i would vote the shit out of tekmonkey, for serious :xd:

i pray for the day when this becomes a genuine option on stafford ballot papers lol.. we got the ball rolling back in 2009 - let's keep it going :teef:

Well so far the turn out is almost as high as the Police Commissioner elections

might i suggest getting Him Upstairs to edit the poll so that people's votes aren't publicly displayed? some people might not want others to know, which might be putting them off voting..

At John Marwood's request, I have slightly modified the wording of the original poll, and changed it so that all votes are now anonymous. So get voting, and share on your Facebook/Twitter to see what others think! :)

Not always the case. If the Lib dems had not gone into coallition then the conservatives would be drooling around the independents. Also if the Indie makes it clear that he has no conscience and his vote is up for sale he can have a lot of influence, far more than a party man following the wip.

Hmm, maybe we should have a forum whip round for the £500 :D

Not sure I'd make it past the first round of public debate without calling the other guys raping shit eaters though.....
