Have a look at Great Haywood, everything you need in a village + canal, river, and close to Shugborough

If you want everything on your doorstep, good shoppping, to be able to walk around reasonable safely without someone yamming into you, somewhere to go other than a pub or cannock chase and then dont move to stafford.......I would suggest you buy a houseboat - that way you can try and move if necessary ;)

Our Lucy went - but they wouldn't let her stay and she's still trying to get used to the cold again...

I should change my signature. I would offer a house swap to live in Melbourne if I could, love that city.

Still a newbie on this forum so I'm not sure how to quote others comments yet :|

My reason for the big move....
During my 2 trips to UK, I honestly found Staffordordians so friendly. The locals were very helpful from Bob & Pam at Hindles Butchers/Post Office to the cashiers working at the Co-op, to the owner/s of Chris' chippy... even during my afternoon walks by the canal & Cannock Chase, I was shocked that I was greeted each and every time I walked by someone. That type of friendly atmosphere is what you see on TV e.g Neighbours LOL
Also, I fell in love with Britain's country side & picturesque scenery villages/towns. The more I read about Britain's rich history the more I love it :)

Welcome Ozzie - Take no notice of some of the "doom and gloom" mongerers dissing Stafford and surrounds, Staffordshire is without doubt England's finest County. Best of all it is a liitle known National treasure.

They are pretty much the reasons I'd move to Melbourne, it's strange how different people percieve the same place.

Hi all, new on here so apologies if this has been asked before! Thinking of moving to Stafford, and wondering if it has a particular side that's renowned for being the best side? I.e. if there's a particular part to avoid?!
Thanks in advance!

Hello love.

There are always parts to avoid anywhere. But the parts that you might want to avoid might be the very parts that others find attractive.

So first off you need to say what you want.

For example, I live in a small community where we all look out for each other, we have lots of village events and everyone knows everyone else. suits me but some may feel that they don't want to interact too much with their neighbours. Would this be right for you?

Some areas of Stafford you can walk to town quite easily but live there for 6 years and never know your neighbour. Would this be right for you?

Some areas are a bit rough and have a reputation for being able to buy drugs. Would this be right for you.

Let the forum know a bit about you and we can find the perfect place for you whether it be in town or a village nearby.

Thanks Hothouse Flower!! Much appreciate your reply :) No, I don't want to buy drugs so let's scratch that off the list!! :))
Ok, so my husband and I have a 4-yr old and we particularly want an area near to a Catholic Primary School (currently live in Newport that has an excellent school but we need to move closer to my husband's work in Uttoxeter). So we'd like an area on the South/West side of Stafford, so that he's not battling traffic trying to get onto the Hixon road in the morning. Somewhere that at least has a local shop and post office, I'm not too bothered about being able to walk into town as we'd normally drive to Tescos anyway and can walk in when in that direction. Don't mind knowing my neighbours and would like to be able to make friends with other mums sending their kids to school next september, so a friendly place is right up my street!
So far we've eyed-up The Haywoods as well as Walton-on-the-hill but don't know much about Baswich/Weeping Cross just yet? We are looking to rent so options are limited on that side of town at the moment.
Any thoughts on all that appreciated!
