Have your say on Victoria Park.

Really disappointing to see them chasing money with the downsizing and moving of the aviary. I think this is one of the nicest features of the park and really adds to the historic feel.

but they aren't getting rid of it - the current aviary is really dilapidated and grim - any improvement on that must be better for visitors and birdies

I'm sure they'd prefer to get rid of it. The current one might be dilapidated but the council want that space for a big glass cafe, easy to see why it's been allowed to get run down. It reeks of chasing money and it's disappointing.

By coincidence I happened to be in the park this morning....I was early picking someone up from the train station so decided on a 15 minute stroll round the park.

That aviary is a disgrace. Several birds in one coop with just one small branch to perch on.

I'm no fan of keeping things in cages anyway ( I detest zoos) but I felt so sorry for those birds. It's practically verging on cruelty.

I hope that they do close it down....or alternatively spend money on doing it up properly so that the poor birds don't have to live in squalor.

Or, build a new one that's suitable as per the plans. I'd hate to see it go , it brings a lot of joy to people (my toddler included) but it does need a rethink as per the accommodation.

I say rename it Lefroy Park after the distinguished Parliamentary representative for Stafford as a mark of respect for what he's brought to the town

A savage wild beast has been apprehended in the Park and is being held securely within the kiosk - if you know who should be looking after it then please alert them.

Visited the aviary last Thursday with the grandson and heir, he was quite taken with it, more so the swings on the other side.

Brit and I walk through the park when we can on our way too and from the train station on our daily commute - so it's 'hello ducks' on the way to nursery (and also Squirrel! Black Bird!) and 'night night parrots, night night chickens' on the way home.

It's a lovely park now, I'm sure it will be amazing once it's finished.

It is a lovely park. But, I'm absolutely certain that this money could be better spent elsewhere. The provision of another park for example, to reduce the sardine like congestion this one experiences in the childrens and skateboard areas. Stafford population is allowed to increase at a much faster rate than it's provision of parks and leisure spaces :(

I see your point, another park would be nice somewhere but that itself would cause issues.

Land doesn't come cheap and you also want to bring people in the town centre areas, not take them away if you can.

With regards to money, the proposed park improvements will be financed almost entirely from heritage funds, so a new park can't be part of the criteria.

This the right thing to do, ensure that the fabulous current park is updated and enhanced and not left to deteriorate especially at the expense of another park somewhere.

Stafford is spoilt for choice for parks. I'm currently down south in a very nice part of town where play park provision is utterly shocking. The two walkable parks are of dreadful quality. Within walking distance of where we live in Stafford we have at least 5 parks, 2 of which (town and wildwood) are exceptional and the other three which are perfectly pleasant (crossings, rowley and st Leonard's)

Nothing in North End though (yes I know ive been banging on about this for ages)- Holmcroft park is shocking, its such a shame that all the decent parks are in the other end of town.

Spoilt for choice? Are you takng the p*ss? Look at the state of the skateboard section of the town park. To my knowledge this is the only place the kids can go to skateboard legitimately and it's so busy it's like sardines, all the time, not just on sunny days.

And as @littleme says, there is absolutely nothing for those kids unfortunate enough to live in the deprived north of town. They get the sh*t end of town shopsAND no parks!!!!

There's also skateboard/scooter/stunt bike facilities at Wildwood Park and, I think, Weston Downs. Totally agree there needs to be more of these spread fairly around town though. I also agree that the North End does seem to be unfairly disadvantaged when it comes to leisure facilities for the young.
