Haha thats some serious spiteful Culting going on there, to actually purchase an animal to make a point.

To be fair though I will kill it with my subwoofer, it won't even hear it coming

Plus I’d be aiming for .co.uk if I were you.
That answers post 34 DB. I always use .co.uk for Google search.
Ask anyone which search engine they use, and if they say google, say google WHAT? 90% always answer me "dot com"
Never thought about the Geo affecting search results in great depth, but I know myself if i'm searching something (especially products i can buy from UK suppliers), i always .co.uk it (but in reality not many general web users do)

Hmmmm. Interesting thinking

Went in twice for some reason, still learning how to use this thing, scrubbed it now.
Plus I'm with WRM, don't need all the yank crap!

Google UK is me home page.
Set about DBs thing, The Forum is 4th down, page 19.
Well, now this is interesting. I didn't realise google.co.uk threw up different results to google.com. I have just searched www.google.co.uk for "stafford" and went straight to page 19, but couldn't see The Forum anywhere, so started trawling through the pages one by one. I've just found us on page 12 - albeit as "staffordforum.com" instead of the more correct www.staffordforum.com!

So, does this mean that Google results are slightly different for everyone? Or has our ranking on google.co.uk really changed since Catabatic made his post?

Thanks for the tip about Redirect 301, MyCult - I'll be sure to make http://no-www.org proud ;)

I've just added the redirect to the .htaccess and it seems to be working fine. Let me know if anything funky happens round here in case I've broken something! ;)

Yes. I google a load of stuff for work as do my collegues. If we google the same terms with the same preferences we can have dramatically different results.

just tried it - page 12 and its staffordforum without the Wibbly Wobbly Web bit :teef:
same here.. although it redirected me to wibbly wobbly web automagically, so mycult's wizardry obviously worked

i still think it can't hurt to let google know that when we search for "stafford" we are looking for the forum, so i'm going to start using this method every day to get to this place :)

Yes mate the different G's throw up different results. So when optimising an Australian site it google.com.au I put the majority of my efforts into. Also G's throws up different results depending on which data centre you hit.

This depends, sometimes yes, if you’re logged into your G account sometimes that affects your results and like I said before which data centre you actually query. G has many many data centres. I have tools that allow you to query them individually but this is getting a bit beyond the point here.

If you'd like to have an 'un-personalised' search while still logged into your G account simply append &psw=0 to the query string in the browser bar.

Well, it's possible I broke something. Out of interest, did anyone get "403 Forbidden" when trying to access The Forum today?

Note that this wasn't MyCult's fault - he's been very helpful, but it's my own faffing that is to blame ;)

we're on page 7 of google.co.uk today! i'm going to tell myself it's down to my constant googling of the word "stafford" when looking for the forum, even though mycult tells me otherwise and, frankly, knows far more on the subject lol..
