How will you vote in the Staffordshire County Council elections 2013?

It does a bit, yes. Isn't a vote for something almost the definition of support for it?

I always vote even if there isn't anyone I want to vote for!

If there isn't anyone I want to vote for I will vote for the person who is likely to come second in the, probably mistaken, belief that if the winning candidate only wins by a narrow margin then he will work harder to make sure he gets back in next time!

So my vote doesn't always mean I support the party I vote for.

I know it is a bit odd but if I had to agree with all of a parties policies before voting for them I would never vote.

Best of my knowledge they were proposing to scrap National Insurance which in effect is an 11% income tax so for many there would be no difference although it might affect over 65's who don't pay NI.
Saying all that Nigel Farage did say on Question Time that UKIP's tax policy was under review but his main thrust was that the tax and benefit regime in this country is far too complicated and needs simplifying

So everyone is on 20% tax apart from those earning NMW? Any idea how the taxation shortfall is dealt with?

I have just heard back from my contact about Nikki Sinclair and it appears that the jury is still out, he thinks that the sex change theory is just that but he doesn't know for sure.

No I think the plan was to set the rate at 30% with no National Insurance but as I said the policy is under review.
There are for and against arguments over a flat rate tax. For many years the principle of the more a person earns the higher the rate of tax he or she pays, but in reality the rich can afford the advice for them to reduce their tax bill considerably and as the case in France shows, if you set the tax rates too high the rich just move somewhere else. I would like to see a fair rate of tax in place which everyone pays with no avoidance. The same can be said about how earnings and sales of multinationals are taxed.

But if NI is around 10% its the equivalent of all being on 20% as it currently stands? That still seems to signal a shortfall to me, as they would be raising the salary at which you pay tax but then locking those who do pay to the lowest tier. I'd expect quite a shortfall.

I applaud the idea of taking tax from all, but its easier said than done.

I was reading an article in yesterdays Sunday Times about how John Caudwell decided to pay capital gains on the sale of his share in Phones4Us rather than moving it offshore, this meant he paid £250 million tax on the £1.5 billion he received. Now many people would say as he's rich he can afford it, but he didn't had to do that and I wonder how many of us would have done the same.
Also in the article to went on about the amount he spends on charity and this is another area that wealthy could more. In America it is pretty much expected of people who do well to give to charities, hospitals schools etc.

It's not the rich who give to charities though - I'd be surprised if there wasn't a study of some kind that shows that it's overwhelmingly the less well off who tend to give to charities and good causes.

When you are rich enough that money is irrelevant it makes sense to spread it. Not many rich people see the same sense as poor people!
