Sounds shocking Monkey, thanks for the heads up....

Its not very often at all that we have a takeaway or eat out so when we do, we don't want to waste our money on crap food.

Having been barred from Nishads several years ago for offending other customers, we get our takeaways from Shuma which is next to the Rifleman. Colossal has a chilli balti, which I believe is HOT. I have chicken tikka salad which is loverly. In fact could do it all now if only it were open...

Well I've just had one of the worst curries I've ever tasted, curtesy of my usual favourite Spice Delight. Starters were bland and undercooked, main course was quite frankly crap. I was afraid our taste buds may be playing up, so got my brother to try it. Said it was like a crap stew with some curry powder thrown in. Really dissapointed.

Called them up to tell them, they said they were busy tonight. I explained that we order a lot, and that tonight was extremely below par. They just said they'd give me 25% off my next order, but he couldn't wee what else he could do. Seriously doubt I shall order from them again, they have either hired a very poor new chef or just don't care what they put out anymore.

So, where else is worth trying?
I have noticed Spice Delight varies (had a really poor one from them at 11 oclock on a Sunday night a few months back). Ordering early in the evening and collecting in person seem to shield you from that a little. A bit like the Grateful Dead, on form it's the best and off-form it's awful!

Always tempted to try Abduls for takeaway, as when we were last there for a meal we waited an eternity for some excellent food, while takeaway after takeaway shot out of the kitchen.

And you were one of us! It was indeed an ugly episode.
I was not one of you - I was just there as well!

Not the best of names for a takeaway, perhaps that's why they don't seem to be in the current Yellow Pages.

Yes, the one which I think is called "Chicken Chilli Massala" at Shuma is my favourite takeaway in the world ever.

This has been hideously distorted and exagerrated over time. It wasn't anything like as bad as Florence makes it sound.

I am still traumatised.
And I suppose that's why you laugh every time we talk about it?

I think you'll find that it was hideously distorted and exagerrated at the time. No further augmentation has proved necessary.

On a related note, I once saw a person of south-Asian origin purchase a take-away in Stafford Balti. I am not aware of this ever happening anywhere else in recorded history. Perhaps other forumites may have witnessed similar events in other ethnically biased food outlets.

Do Shuma deliver? To think we nearly went to that place on the Stone road, but to save a few quid decided to stay in. At least if I'd been served that in a restaurant I could have kicked off, and they've have had to do something about it. Just tried it again (we couldn't eat it last night, its still here), and its still crap.

My GF seems to have spotted the problem, the ingredients are there but just not cooked properly. There was raw ginger, shrooms that look like they've just been picked, there was just sod all flavour. A real shame, as I used to like Spice Delight, but they have been going downhill recently. I am convinced the chef they had a year ago has gone, if anyone knows his whereabouts please let me know!

I just feel that £23 for a meal I'd have chucked if I'd cooked it myself aint on, and I was starvin!

please please, what happened in nishads ?
My therapist has suggested that talking about it any further would not be helpful in this case, and that I should also avoid any antiques based television programmes whose titles may possibly form the basis for obscene rhyming slang scenarios.

You weren't there as well, were you - I've tried to blot it all out, but I'm having the flashbacks again.

I was the wrong side of sober, he was the wrong side of pissed. There was no controlling that situation. And his "pissed switch" didn't help. I believe "shawaddywaddy" were the real villians here...(but David Dickinson played his part.)

Stop talking as though something catastrophic happened. Nobody died, did they?!

David Dickinson was as innocent a victim of all this as I was myself. You are merely abdicating responsibility. The expansion of the incident into the misuse of child safety apparatus in the middle of Earl Street was also down to your lack of control.

I did consider it as a possible way out of the situation and it's beginning to look more attractive than reliving the trauma.

Ok, possibly not the best metaphor, but I was struggling to think of something else that is genius sometimes, and disaster at others.....
