Another one-off bites the dust from Stafford town, another one-off out of sight.

I haven't read up on your plight with being booted out from the Riverside location and your plight (if there was one, i'm sure there was) to get a move to some other place (with footfall and other bits that go with a town centre location) and help (if any) from Stafford council and the like.

Damn you Stafford with your (it'll bring a gazillion jobs to Stafford - honest!) developments.
...point me in the right threading direction if i've got it wrong.

i wish you all the best and good luck with the move Jade-clothing.

Regards,
57mph

What a pity to move from a good prime site. Your shop was always attractive and where you are moving to will not be seen by most of the population. Shame on you stafford.

More good wishes from me. On the "footfall" front, Paramnesia (Alternative) Clothing has now opened at what was Dallans at Gaol Square, hopefully your businesses will attract more people away from the "Corporate" end of the town to the more independent.

don't get me wrong we arent being booted out as such, although the lease has come to an end. the council called me in for a meeting months ago to explain that the row of shops - Capital Appliances, us and the Litten Tree, was going to be re-developed but they did ask us to stay. One of their suggestions was for the builders to work round us and then move to another unit in the row when one was finished - this didnt appeal to us as we remembered how bad it was when we had the scaffolding up for 3 weeks after the councils window fell out! Kind of think burly builders, brick dust and lots of noise would put the lovely ladies off buying their clothes!
So we made the decision to go back to selling solely online. I'm really excited about it - its how I ran Jade for years before I had the shop and to be honest we make a hell of a lot more money selling worldwide than we do from selling in the shop. So I'm seeing it as a positive move for Jade - especially (as always) I have some new ideas and something in the pipleline :)

This suggests that people will not be able to just 'drop in' but need an appointment, kind of thing - maybe worth clarifying if this is/isn't the case.

Oh, and good luck in your new venture J-c :)

Sorry about that - yes customers will need to let us know before hand when they are coming in as the new premises wont be set out as a shop so we will need to get any items they want to try on out before they arrive. When we decided to do this we hadnt actually thought of doing this! We were going to solely sell online, but we have had a really positive response from customers who use the shop who still want to carry on buying from us and some of them suggested this. As we have a small room we can change into a changing area at the offices we thought it was a good idea!

Great!

As much as i love an independent with a face (shop front) the very main thing is that the company does well, and it sounds like it has and will, so you don't need a 'good luck' just a 'go get'em...'

...and it isn't like you're leaving, leaving, you're staying, all's good then.

Regards,
57mph

57mph - from your comment I took it that you may have thought I was inventing our plight - please listen to Radio Stoke tomorrow morning at 7.55am! Apologies if I misconstrued what you said :)

Not content with taking over the newspapers - forumites are going for the broaodcast press as well. Well done.

What's the radio interview about? With Stafford FM off air i will retune to Radio Stoke for this? Is it a lively debate?

Ha ha I wouldnt get too excited, I think I'm going to sound like a complete idiot - they may even decide not to play my bit! Chris King came in the shop and asked if he could interview me about the redevelopment of our row of shops as he's doing a piece on it tomorrow.

I think 57mph simply meant that he wasn't aware of why you were moving, and therefore wasn't sure whether it was for reasons bad (i.e. plight) or good (i.e. no plight)!
