The EU's definition of free movement includes "enjoy equal treatment with nationals in access to employment, working conditions and all other social and tax advantages".

I wonder if they will consider the Swiss to be playing the Single Market game legitimately?

Could be put up as a test case by EU states who would like to do the same thing. If the Swiss get away with it then they can too.

But, if all things are equal, they can do that now. It only makes a difference if you have to prefer a local when the foreigner is better.

And I was so looking forward to WW3 ..
Another Boris exaggeration. Please show the relevant quote from anyone other than Boris... You won't...
In the ^above clip all you will see is Cameron being all too characteristically poor at defending an ill worded 'press release'. The point he fails to make is, however, not to be easily dismissed.

'WW3' won't happen tomorrow, or even when (or if...) Article 50 is initiated. But remember, WWII was inconceivable in 1918, even though it was just a couple of decades away.

I have been binge-watching The Tudors because in the wine-soaked death of my beloved laptop, doing all of this sort of caper has become something of a ball ache, and Netflix has become my succour. Tonight there was an interesting exchange between More & Wolsey - now i'm as infuriated as the next man regarding the historical innaccuracies within it, and of course all the motivations of all the 'players' will always be open to interpretation but it's quite diverting in its own way - that ran thus...

Context - A summit is to be held between the King of France and the Holy Roman Emperor ( think of him as the King of Spain with Benefits)- Wolsey sends More as Ambassador for the King of England, in the midst of which Henry (King of England) is pressing his suit to divorce Catherine (The Holy Roman Emperor's Aunt) while the Pope is effectively under 'house arrest' of said Emperor. Wolsey wants to know if the Emperor would be willing to enforce Catherine's rights by force of arms...

More: You think he might invade England..?
Wolsey: I don't think anything, but i imagine everything. And it is those imaginings that cause me great pain.

The thing about 'good ole Nige' is that this is not the End Game for him - i'm not in a great position to provide linked sources but i don't think it is a particularly guarded secret - his stated aim is to encourage more Member States to follow the same path.

It is not for nothing that probably the greatest Cartoonist of our age, Martin Rowson - if we lived in an age that had its priorities adjusted differently he would, tbf maybe in the course of time he will, be regarded as highly as Gillray - portrays Farago as a snake.

I don't think anyone would suggest that the EU was anything even approaching an Eden, but our withdrawal will surely make the likelihood of more withdrawals much higher. This tends toward a return to fragmentary States with narrow self-interests. This has seldom been a recipe for peace and stability.

I don't think anyone really 'looks forward' to these things, but it is hard for me, at least, to keep them out of my imaginings.

There are also several smaller states who see the EU as an aid to maintaining their independence from the unwelcome influence of overbearing larger neighbours.

And Russia will be the most welcoming Brexit ally.

One wonders why 'we' haven't already started negotiations with them - one imagines they would be most receptive to the idea.
