Morrisons coming to Stafford?

I'd rather Waitrose took it over but it'll never happen as Stafford isn't affluent enough for them now.

You'd be surprised how much affluence there is in Stafford and the surrounding area. Stafford Audi and Stafford Land rover seem to do alright. A Waitrose would actually draw people into the town centre.

Nope

No surprises

No draw

A few tight arsed villagers make not a wealthy area

Godalming on the other hand

Chatted with a suited chap earlier at the entrance to the site, keys handed over to Morrisons in November for the store to be fitted-out and then trading by Easter, the schematic drawing adjacent the entrance shows two more units to be built on this site these cannot start until the remaining car parking is closed off, this is planned for end of next month when the new multi storey is hand over to SBC.......

Summat 4 Pets and B&M have been mentioned although not sure if the latter will overlap on lines stocked in Morrisons, they'll probably just stick to the tat.....

Audis are cheap... my high spec one costs less on the lease than the equivalent mondeo.

There's a reason they are both situated by the motorway and it's not because it's easier for Stafford people to get to them.

True but that's been the case for only the past couple of years and both were trading in Stafford for a number of years.

So no person in Stafford has a new Audi or Land Rover?

Perhaps they buy even more upmaket cars perchance?

And perhaps they have to go further afield to buy those cars.

The demographic of Stafford is, or could be changing.

People are buying into the area because they can buy a big house at half the cost of Solihull and still commute to work in half an hour.

Indeed there is.

Audi outgrew its previous location and wanted to build a corporate large sales and service site. The only place it could do that at the time, in Stafford was where it is now.

The Land Rover dealership was sold up by its previous owner. The new owners considered demolishing the existing site and the former Mazda garage next to it and building a new big dealership there, but it would still have been too cramped for what their business plan wanted to achieve in terms of growth. So they moved to where they are now because it was also the only place that could accommodate the size of site they required.

Neither specifically went there because of the motorway (though that is a nice bonus) they just needed larger premises from which to sell their increasingly popular upmarket bangers and 4x4s from. Their sales 'patch' is no larger than it was before its just that people within that patch would rather buy an Audi than a Ford now or trendy 4x4 instead of a family saloon. It's amazing what you can afford on a PCP if you choose to do so and many, many people do.

The number of people who come from areas away from Stafford to buy a car is very low, regardless of where the dealership is in relation to the motorway. Stafford car prices are notoriously high and discounts, on the mean side. Dealerships round here rely on corporate leasing deals often negotiated by their manufacturers head office and the local community, which is expanding quite rapidly, being too lazy or stupid to seek a better deal elsewhere.

Waitrose is overrated TBH. The one in Newport is rubbish. The fruit and veg offering is good - better selection and quality than the other supermarkets, but the rest? Overpriced meat, fish and poultry (though welfare standards appear to be generally higher), an overpriced grocery offering that's no better than elsewhere, a token non-foods section of mostly tat. I haven't been at all impressed when I've been in. A few years ago they were better for exotic ingredients, but the others have quickly caught up.

Decent beer selection though. If I'm in the area I usually nip in to grab a few bottles.
