The plans for the Doxey/Castlefields expansion allow for retail/other so there is still room for another shop. We shall see....
As I live in Castletown i'll then be within 10 minutes off 4 supermarkets, the town centre, an access road and the station - all with optional boating lake! Hurraaahhh!

I for one did consultancy work for waitrose and finding a location in stafford 5 years ago. They are keen but like to rule the roost when it comes to leasing.

they essentially had signed up at north walls at pre contract but morrisons blew them out the water signing an extra 10 year lease ( max 25 years 20 year opt out).

They have been wanting a town centre seen the previous local plan and they are mentioned

Everyone stll loves you

Erm

Thats's it

apart from the fact that Morrisons appear to have paid over the odds for a site in town and now the numbers are being crunched elsewhere

In the olden days Stafford was known as a shoe town and had an extraordinary amount of shoe shops ( After the days when it was known as a Gin town and had an extraordinary amount of Gin Shops )
Soon to be known as a Supermarket town - is this competition a good or a bad thing?

Can't be great for Sainsburys can it

There's a large Aldi just opened up on the A41 near Newport. I bet their town shops love that

The main problem though is that 90% of their stock is identical, meaning that unless the other 10% contains something you really like they are interchangeable. I shop mainly based on who is on my way home, as I shop little and often due to not having a car. The aldi on stone road will see some custom from me, unlike the tesco which is a massive rip off.

One good thing to say about Morrisons, they generally produce their own milk, fruit and veg etc. So they're not actually screwing over their suppliers, so much better than Tesco.

should be open by the end of the year

There is a tiny article on page 2 of the Newsletter which says that the building will be completed on target by the end of the year.

However there is no opening date set yet.

A Morrisons spokeman said a date has to be confirmed but it will not be before the end of the year and most likely open in 2016

Seems a bit odd to me that they will have a finished building and yet not move in.

Probably sorting the deal with Lidl/Aldi/Tesco/Sainsburys/Asda/Waitrose to take over the building

I'd have aimed for Christmas, lots of shoppers stupidly overspending and interested in what is different about the place compared to what we already have.
