After the expedition of this morning, I found myself required to attend both acceptable pubs tonight. One for the aftermath of yesterday's wedding and the other for a musical entertainment evening.

I cycled out to the first one, which would normally have 25 to 30 people on a Sunday evening, to find that there were around 4 to 500 there. the scale of what was going on was unbelievable. I survived two pints and headed back to town. On the way out, I had met this chap - I'm not sure how easily fooled the crows are, but I initially waved back at him.

Having deposited the bike at home, I ventured into town for the second half. Tonight's event there might not sound too attractive - a chap on a keyboard with backing tracks and another bloke on electric drums, doing "classics", but they are very entertaining and bring a go-go dancer with them. The dancer doesn't stop all night and does make it dangerous to come in through the door or even to try to go for a piss, without becoming involved. At one point, three innocent Nigerian girls stumbled in through the door and became embroiled in the whole thing. This is all the more unusual because the dancer is an eighty-year-old ex-Aer Lingus 747 pilot, but he does own the floor...

Tomorrow may be a quiet day.

Dug my cossie out , booked myself in for my first Aqua-Zumba class tonight. :D
Don't know if I'm being brave or foolish , as apparently the water will come up to my neck. (I can swim for miles , as long as my head is above water. The moment I go under it's panic stations!) Just texted the instructor (my usual land-zumba one takes that aqua class ) to say make sure I can stand by the side to grab it . 😂

Had a great bank holiday morning yesterday with the Zumba crew. With the usual monday zumba venue closed , she hired a studio for 10 of us in the leisure centre for a change where she does lots of other classes as well. Then gave us a tour around the whole leisure centre afterwards , followed by coffee .

The teaching pool where the aqua classes take place looked quite do-able at the height it was for the kiddies yesterday.... so committed myself... But apparently it is a moving floor where height is adjusted according to the class. Tonights class is deep and being a short @rse it'll be neck high for me. :o This'll be scary , but worth trying once ! 😂

I have managed to resolve a mystery that I was involved in, but I was the only one who didn't know it was a mystery...

At Christmas, I pruned a new hedge for someone who was concerned that he might knacker it, if he did it himself. This ended up with me going home with his inflatable snowman, which had failed to inflate for a few days. I managed to fix it and it was picked up a few days later.

Simple - so far.

Last week, I found a small, animated snowman, with adjacent snowstorm in a spherical 'dome' - he was in a clear plastic box at the back door. This snowman was about 15" high, not 'life'-sized, as with the inflatable one. Investigations revealed that the blower which should animate the polystyrene 'snow' was turning feebly, due to its separate power supply having largely failed. I moved the connection to the supply for the arm-waving motor and all seemed reasonably well. I ran it for an hour and that supply seemed to cope with both motors.

I strapped the box to the bike and set off, through the town, to deliver it.

There was nobody in, so I left it on the table under the covered section of the patio at the back and came home - job done. I would probably see one of them about once a month and Christmas is a long way away, so I left it at that. No rush.

Last night, in the pub in the next village, about five miles from their house, I was asked "Have you found any snowmen lately?", I took this to be a comment resulting from my delivery run having been observed, but, after some confused conversation, I realised that the questioner was actually the real owner of the second snowman.

I have just been round to the home of the first snowman, to confess what had happened - they had returned from a weekend away, to find an unknown, possibly Trojan, snowman, lurking on their patio. I felt an urge to sort it out as soon as possible, as they are recent incomers from the city and might have felt that this was some sort of veiled threat, along the lines of finding a horse's head in their bed.

I know that her sister lives about half a mile past the real home of this snowman, so she will drop him off in a couple of days.

Like an episode of Father Ted, written by Stephen King.
I have averted the potential for doing all that again^

A chap in the pub asked me to look at a couple of clocks for him. That was some weeks ago, but he is a rather laid-back person.

A few days ago, I found two clocks in a bag at the back door. I had a quick investigation and came to some conclusions.

I happened to see him in the pub last night and mentioned that we should get the small one going, but the bigger one is probably a bit too far gone.

He responded by saying that he will drop them off in the next few days.

These clocks are not his and I now don't have even a vaguely plausible suspect for the real owner...

Your supposed to keep the jump starter in the car!
It was in the boot & I couldn't get into the boot with it locked. (never thought of climbing over into the back seat and try pulling that down to get to boot in my panic in the dark ) Son used his jump leads .
Definitely checked that the lights were off when I left it. Was wondering whether someone tried the car and the alarm was going all the time while I was inside and wore the battery down???? As soon as the power got to the battery the alarms started going off.
Wasn't enough power to even unlock the doors. Thought I was trying the wrong car at first!

Got breakdown cover , but son was the quickest option ( feeling a bit guilty about bothering him though as he'd gone to bed feeling fluish ).

Messaged hubby because he wasn't answering his phone. Told him the car won't start and I was sat there in a dark deserted carpark on my own....
his reply...."OK"

Apart from that I enjoyed my first go at Aqua Zumba :D

Keep it in the footwell behind the driver’s seat.

How old is the car? My 2011 Fiesta was losing its battery by the time I traded it in (2018) and my Leaf which is currently sat idle on the driveway keeps losing the 12V as their battery top-up tech is a little bit lacking

It's there now.

Standing outside Halfords at the moment having a new battery fitted. He did a check on my 8 Yr old battery and its knackered..
( nearest place to me, and holding g my breathe all the way incase it conked out in traffic. )

Oh yeah, 8 years is veeeeery old for a 12V. It’s very unlikely it’d conk out in traffic until you had a stop/start, could be screwed if it stalled though

I was reving like a boy racer , and taking more chances than I would normally ( safe though) at roundabouts. Luckily the 9am traffic from our house to the Halfords in retail park wasn't too bad.

Had a free vehicle check as well , which confirmed my tyres , which had a 1000-2000 miles left advisory at MOT, are still OK and well within limits.

Bought a big torch as well which I can plonk on top of the car if I break down in a live lane whilst taking son to the airport in the dark.

If your battery is 8 years old it owes you nothing.

Thinking back to years ago when we had to keep topping up with distilled water & charging most weeks, these batteries are rather good now.

At least its shut hubby up a bit, had a right blazing row this morning as he was accusing me of " you must have left the lights on " even though it was light when I drove there so lights weren't even on and I always check anyway( But won't admit he was wrong to accuse me even now:roll: )

Son was rather surprised at his dad's reaction to me being stranded in a dark deserted carpark...all I got was "ok" and back to watching his telly :ohno:

Son had got back up out of bed , after being up for work at 4am shift and going to bed feeling fluish , to come to my rescue.
(Would have to ring breakdown rescue if not , but didn't fancy sitting scared in a carpark if it took them hours to turn up)

Seeing as it's 'our' car , it's always down to me to get it fixed. :(

Anyway , going to Mr dishy's zumba class in a bit to cheer me up :D

Have I got this in right order for future jump starts and incase sons car goes while I'm driving it?....
1) red to working car
2)red to flat car
3)black to working car
4)black to flat car
Then off again..
5)black off flat car
6)black off working car
7)red off working car
8)red off flat car

It's 7 & 8 I'm not sure of...

That is OK. It can be worth realising that Stage 4 can result in a spark as you make the connection - some people will prefer to connect that to an unpainted location away from the battery, rather than the negative terminal itself, but that may be belt, braces and an overcoat.

Run the 'good' car for a minute before trying to start the 'dead' one. When it starts, disconnect as above, keeping the clips away from each other and not letting them touch either car.

Also, if you get roped into a situation where one of the cars is (really) old, then be aware that it could be a positive-earth vehicle. Unlikely these days, but they were still being made into the 70s.

Worth adding that (obviously) red cable to positive terminals on batteries (+ or red)
Might be worth pointing out to Hubbie that what happened is exactly what happens with modern batteries. They work fine & then suddenly with no warning won’t start, often when car is only off for a very short time. Jump start & they’re usually ok for a while then it happens.
First time they go flat (for no apparent reason)it’s best to schedule changing it. You’ve done everything right.
(Long time in motor trade, I know what I’m talking about 😉😁
