Did the new Next store open a day early??? Read some comments on FB that it was open yesterday...

Admin Edit: Post moved to new thread for clarity.

So they spend time and money on advertising, getting people to expect a grand opening... and then open a day early? What an anti-climax and a marketing shambles.

Anyone know why the change?

I was surprised to see that it was scheduled to open the day after a Bank Holiday as opening on a Bank Holiday would make a lot more sense.

They told the missus they were "good to go" (my words) a day earlier than planned, so thought "why not"?

but potentially more expensive if you're paying your staff extra for a bank holiday - and the last thing you want is a having packed shop and things go wrong.

In the big scheme of things, the extra cost on wages is a pittance. As for things going wrong, it will happen on any opening day whether or not the shop is busy or quiet.

I guess some people will complain because they wanted to be the first a queue from 4am !

The day I get up early or queue to get into any shop is the day I shoot myself!

I was planning to pop in later this afternoon as I need to go to the retail park anyway. I was just curious as to why the change. Seems really poor planning - obviously taking tips from the other retail development!

250,000th poster!
Its quite common for retail stores to open days or sometimes weeks before the official opening date. Sometimes to pre selected guests only. To me it seemed strange that they didn't open on Saturday in time for bank holiday - it was certainly all ready to go in the middle of last week.

I always buy stuff online and Next is nothing special compared to other outlets. If I have a spare moment I might pop down to have a quick look (traffic permitting) but having just looked at their website .... quite honestly they are overpriced because I can get similar stuff elsewhere and it won't be as expensive (ASDA and Dunhelm are just as good for homeware imo). You only have to look at houses for sale on Zoopla etc and most of their rooms are covered in next stuff says she resting her feet on a next rug in her conservatory. ;)

I rarely buy anything from Next unless it's in the sale (and then only online). As you say Katniss, other shops are cheaper.

I did take a look in today and was a bit underwhelmed. I don't like the layout at all, other than a few balloons for the kids there was nothing to say it was a "grand opening", and the Costa (another one!) was full of pushchairs - I was hoping the baby/toddler brigade would stick to the other one so I could at least have a coffee in peace!

I do not know why there was a change, however I think it is all very very unimportant......
