New road regs

From the roundabout going towards town the signs at the start of Tenterbanks seem to allow access only. Then at the new mini roundabout bottom of Water Street the same signs appear, again at the new mini-roundabout at the town end of Bridge Street. So can i use this route to pass right thru' and then hang a sharp left just passed Nationwide to get to the handy short term parking bays on Tipping Street? or do i have to all the way round Queensway? It may be simple to some but i'm a tad confused and dunna want to get a ticket for any contravention.........

I've been down that way today ( without looking at any new signs, I must admit ), but I would say that most of the traffic that I saw proceeding down Mill Bank in an Easterly direction was not using the road for access to anywhere on it, merely to get to the other end. Sometimes, however, the policy can be to let people ignore changes for a bit and then stamp on a few. I will have a proper look next time.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who has been reading the text on the new signs that will soon come into operation..."access to offroad servics" allows access !! A tad ambiguous !
Also...if you turn onto eastgate street and have the cop shop and Shrew on your left, the turning into Tipping Street is "no access" ....however....the road marking shave been changed to allow access !!? (but no entry signs are still there !) I'm sure theres method in there....

I took it to be the Victoria Road/Tenterbanks junction.
Mr gk141054's attempt at sarcasm was poor, if one uses the lowest form of wit one shouldn't use the lowest form of idiocy...........
Each to his own, live and let live, etc.

Oh, and beware the daily cuffy monster, you've been had today and we no longer have the same number of points....

i'm informed that the risky stretch is from the mini-roundabout close to the old post office at the start/end of bridge street also close to Nationwide (hope thats clear) to the end of the new block paved area alongside Nationwide's car-park. Seems the local authority parking attendants are not briefed to stop traffic just passing thru' and the only vehicles allowed to do this are taxis and buses. The police and the CPSOs are the ones to carry out this task and over the next few days action will be taken and fixed penalty notices will be dished out ......... :xmas:

Yes, there was a PCSO stopping people and pointing to the sign at the end of Water Street/ Mill Bank Junction

Au contraire Mr Basil... no sarcasm was intended, I was merely questioning "which roundabout in hell is he on about" as I have no idea where "Tenterbanks" is.... (looked it up now though)

Was your "Oh was there a full stop" comment sarcasm? Don't worry though I accept your apology in advance if it was. :)

Perhaps you could be clearer in your posts in future... my mind reading skills are failing with old age and my Stafford knowledge is by landmarks and shops rather than areas / road names.

I noticed these markings today too.. Last week I saw on 2 occasions 2 cars coming the wrong way up that road... I wondered what was going on. There are still clearly one way arrows in the street though.

Was I right in my assessment? Am I up to the Derren Brown level of mind-reading skills? I need to know.

I am hearing that this whole excercise is utterly flawed because of impractical rules and ineffective signage... Some are saying this another example of the Highways Department spending lots of money on things which are not really a priority, a la traffic lights at large roundabouts...

There's a beautiful one on the A34 into Stone where the 40 limit goes up to 50 and is immediately followed by a 'Reduce Speed Now' sign - why bother?...

Head out of town on the Weston Road. Drive past Blackheath Lane and there is a reminder sign stating the 40mph limit on the rhs. About 20 yards further are the 'end of restrictions' signs.

Are there any other examples of daft, expensive-to-the-taxpayer signage around?

There is a sign in Parker's Croft Road that warns you of 'Humps for 340 yards' - Parker's Croft Road is about 40 yards long and has NO humps in it - there are two houses on Parker's Croft Road, the occupants of which do not have a car between them. The 'rationale' of this pointless warning seems to be that there is another sign at the start of Garden Street warning of 'Humps for 320 yards' if you were to drive straight across Wolverhampton Road at that point. The place is full of stupid 'pretend to do the job' examples like this.
