I have to join in about humps, my wife has crumbly bones (osteoporosis) and if I take humps at any slow speed it bounces her about, take them at 40 and theres no noticeable bump, the suspension absorbs the shock, so if shes in the car I travel at 40 in a 20 mph zone , stupid or what!
Strangely, I had the same outcome when I had my smaller car...go over it slow, and you're like an Orca's breakfast!

Councils can still subsidise fares.
They have powers to offer concessions, but they are not for offering a concession to everyone!! And if they did, where's the money coming from...?

What are 'off-street premises'? We can have access to those, but, presumably, not on-street premises.

I think that's what it said....

With Arriva's extortionate fares, why are the buses getting worse and less frequent...Something's going on here, as it's not like the buses are any less packed, and there's only so much they can blame on fuel prices!

I have also noticed that the frequency of buses is steadily decreasing, especially during the evening and at weekends, also when you complain to Arriva, the excuse they give you is a lack of drivers…

the only vehicles allowed to do this are taxis and buses.
Taxis in this case only refers to Hackneys. Private Hires aren't allowed. Blatant vehicle racism only letting the white ones use the road....
Yeah what about the black cabs?.......:xmas:

Some routes are packed, others less so. The Lichfield, Cannock and Telford buses are often rammed but the town services aren't.

A big proportion of passengers are travelling on free over-60s passes. Bus companies get paid for those journeys based on an average fare paid by cash-paying passengers. On top of that, bus fares are "inelastic" (in the short-ish term) which means if you put fares up, you lose passengers, but still increase revenue (problem is in the longer term, revenue declines, fares go up again etc). Stagecoach in Northampton admitted publicly a while back that they bunged up fares as it meant they got paid more for carrying concessionary passengers using free passes... There are other things going on as well, like insurance costs going up thanks to ambulance chasing compensation claims.

Off street premises....in this case mostly private carparks...

There was a community officer preventing cars going into town last night just before the Coach....the reason he wasn't at the new roundabout is that there is the small NCP next to Nishads....if you go past that point you are i guess, Through traffic and hence breaking the law. I presume thats why the signs are also next to the old Dog and Partridge pub if you want to go straight on...they don't want you to go straight on but they must let you get into the old Riverside private carpark....which leads me onto Tipping Street now being two ways of Eastgate Street...to access the magistrates court carpark only.....one assumes that Tipping Street will be closed soon ?

Ok to clear the matter up I donned my best Sherlock Holmes hat and pipe and went down with my camera.....

So.........

From the new mini roundabout down bridge street towards the cinema.....

From the new mini roundabout up South Walls past Nationwide towards Tipping Street car park....
two.jpg

And finally from the new mini roundabout down Mill Bank towards The Yard pub and the park....

So the way I see it, anyone coming down Mill Street and turning right where it meets Greengate Street can only go straight over between 4am and 9pm.....

Between 9pm and 4pm your only option is to turn right at the mini roundabout back up Mill Bank.

Obviously its ok to run over shoppers in your car, they just don't want you running drunks over.....

BTW whilst I was taking these photos I saw LOTS of people going up South Walls when no one other than busses and taxis should. Anyone doing this from Mill Bank has no excuse but unless I missed something, the placement of the signs means its very difficult to see them from Mill Street / Greengate because you are concentrating on the mini roundabout and the signs are at right angles to you.

4am - 9pm!?!?! what's the point of even allowing it between 9pm and 4am then...?

I, however, am still slightly perplexed by the sign at the Water Street/Mill Bank mini-roundabout. The reference to off-street premises, or whatever it actually says - it's not in his picture suite.

This sign matches the one on South Walls......as i see it, its saying "No through route" BUT as there are carparks and such like they can't technically enforce it...so they're hedging their bets. Ie. From water street/mill bank...they can't stop you entering as you may be going to the NCP carpark next to Nishads but they are discouraging you entering. Once you enter, you eiher go the carpark or turn round...hence copper last night turnign people round outside The Yard but not turrning them around at the island ! I FINK !

Well, I'm sorry, but you can't be. Confused has been here for more than two years - although you have overtaken their output already...

And you've already been warned off having an alternative identity.

So sorry, merely trying to be helpful and re-iterating your previous warning. Wouldn't want to cause trouble, etc....

Confused

I really am confused. :) I spend my whole life confused about something.

When the traffic orders for this lot were published I was very confused. They always publish them in the papers as a description, mentioning street names and compass point directions. As I'm not from Stafford originally, I'm still trying to work out some of the street names. It was only when I saw this described pictorially that I started to 'get' it.

I visited the exhibition for this in the Oddfellows hall. Personally I voted for it on the grounds that even only semi-pedestrianising the bottom end of the main street in Stafford, must improve it. This was even after realising that I was probably going to punish myself, by stopping my 'short-cut' to the railway station.

I guess the moral of the story is the following:

Always try to read the public notices in the Newsletter, read the Council website and most of all try and attend the exhibitions of these schemes and let them know your feelings.

Keep up with your civic duties. We all need to do that.

Glad to see that the 10th post has raised you to full member status after a two-year apprenticeship. There's hope for Beverley yet.

I now feel fully vindicated for defending you in the recent identity-theft crisis outlined above....
