NHS Dentist?

wanna see my snake?
After 5 years absence, I've finally decided to go to the dentist. Why you ask? Cos I'm in feckin agony! Had a BBQ on Sat and managed to chomb some lamb fat (oo-er missus) between a cracked tooth and break it. Hoped it would go away, I was wrong....

So, as I'm skint, anyone know an NHS dentist about? At the prices they usually charge I'm better off quitting work and going on the dole to get it done!

Have a look here. Have had a quick look and seems to be a few that are taking on new NHS patients (like Oasis on the Wolvo Road).

Teach you to have a BBQ when I can't come. Make sure it doesn't happen again! :teef:

Bloody hell, first one I called booked me in for tomorrow! Going to Stafford Dental Centre on Eastgate street, accepting new NHS patients and although very busy they have a spare slot tomorrow. Now I just need to get over my huge fear of dentists!

For anybody else, I can highly recommend Oasis Dental off the Wolverhampton Road near TK Maxx.

They are fantastic for me and my son.

Agree with Francis - Oasis have been brilliant for us. Which reminds me..... I have 8 appointments to make for check-ups - a down side to having a big family!!

do you have to commit to a health plan (i.e. annual/monthly) payments to be accepted as NHS at Oasis, or any of these other places? or can you literally phone up, register, then just pop along twice a year for a check-up?

I just called, they said come down. Prices are either £16.50, £45.60 or £198 for a full course of treatment apparently? Now half my teefs need work, will I get them all done for £198?

EDIT: This doesn't seem that clear, it says if I need a crown its £198. What if I need 3 and 12 fillings? Is this all one price, or £198 for each crown? Cos if it is I'll just have a few of the buggers out!

thanks for the tips, people - and thanks for making this thread, tek.. i've been meaning to get off my arse and sort out a dentist for years (literally) and thanks to you lot i've just called oasis and signed me and the missus up :D:up:

£16.50 for a basic polish/x-rays/etc. isn't bad at all, so as long as my teeth aren't falling out of my head it should be all gravy :)

My brother was using one in Uttoxeter as it was the closest NHS dentist he could find, and he can't even drive so getting there was a pain! Gonna get him moved to a local one too I think.

All the work you need will be covered by one of those bands - you wouldn't pay more then £198 for all your work with a NHS dentist - irrespective of how much work needs doing.

yeah - so if you need 1 filling, it's £45.60.. if you need 10 fillings, it's £45.60.. you only fall into the top band if you're well unlucky and need platinum grills with spinners on or something, and even then it's a "one charge for all" situation, like wormella says.. a right touch!

Hey!

Another thank you from me!

I've just (because of this thread) called Eastgate and booked myself to become one of their patients.

So, I got a dentist! I haven't had my choppers looked at for 5 years, I dread to think....

Maybe they'll sort out that clicking noise when I eat... Oh I do hope so.

Well it turns out I have an infection, yay me! Feel like crap but hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. Slept for most of the last 24 hours!

Although the lass I work with just came back from Mexico :strange:
