NHS Dentist?

Took my son to the dentist today for an emergency appointment and I found it very hard not to laugh as he sounded just like Sacha Baron Cohen. Mind you, he must have been good as my son was falling asleep whilst having a filling.

Well I had to go back again today, had 4 abcesses in total now. He's tried all he can, so today did another x-ray to check and decided to pull it. Now considering I'm scared of dentists, I have to say it didn't hurt a bit. I didn't even feel the needle go in, and I normally hate that bit. He didn't use anything to numb it first either, he just somehow managed to stab me several times with a syringe without me feeling it. It took a few minutes to go numb, then he yanked it out. Felt weird, but didn't hurt. My appointment was at 5:15, and by 5:30 I was on my way home again. Didn't feel rushed at all yet he did an x-ray, got the results, and removed the tooth in 15 mins!

So a def skill point from me, he may not be as fit as the girls at Oasis but he's a good dentist!

Last time i was 'in the chair' i was informed by the dental surgeon to "relax you're going to feel a little prick"............

Have been having a nightmare with NHS dentists in Stafford for my GF and have ended up going private at the dentists next to Oasis. He's very, very good, but for the amount he charges I'd expect him to be! The dentist on Eastgate Street was beyond shocking and just wanted to rip all her teeth out and the staff in Oasis seemed really unprofessional and pretty much conned us into paying privately, rather than NHS like they initially said...

Cos of the cost of the work that needs doing we've been thinking about getting it done in a different country, cos apparantly you can get it done for a lot less and get a holiday thrown in! Has anyone else looked into "dental tourism"?

Which dentist on Eastgate street was this, the one at the end or the one opposite the cop shop? Cos I thought my teefs were screwed, yet they only want to fix one!

I'm more intelligent before. Or I pretend to be, that's why my boss employed me (I'm sure he regrets it every day)

The one opposite the cop shop. He had a look at her tooth and said it needed to be pulled. No explanation, no alternatives. Went to the one next to Oasis and needs, at worst, a root canal.

Weird, he didn't want to pull mine! Was hoping to get away with a root canal, but just had too many abcesses. The root looked a tad black when it came out, so guessing he was right. Ended up with 4 visits, a fooking big filling and an extraction for £36 or so. I spent that on bloody antibiotics during the same period.

Not that I was looking forward to a root canal, I hate drills!

Australia. The T stood for time, but I can change it to A if it worries you.

Which one of the blokes there did the extraction, tekmonkey?
They pulled my lower left 8 a few years ago. The noise is definitely the worst bit. Having had a tooth out under general anaesthetic, though, I can say that's definitely a better experience. :)

OK, I've changed my mind!

After my extraction I asked if there was anything to pay, they said no as its one course of treatment. I then receive a bill, which I questioned. Apparently the extraction is a different course of treatment to the filling, therefore I have to pay again. I had no money, so said I'd call them after paydey, but forgot :(

Today I was passing and realised I hadn't paid, so went in to try. They said they passed it to a debt collector last week, so I can't. They won't tell me who the debt collector is, or how to contact them, I have to wait for a letter which tells me who the debt collector is and how to contact them. Seems a bit pointless, I could pay the debt collector today but instead I have to wait. We regularily get no post for days at a time, so who knows when that will appear.

In the meantime I now have a big black mark on my credit file, and my mortgage offer is yet to be processed :(

That’s really bad, especially if they haven't exhausted reasonable means to contact you and retrieve payment. I'd get some advice; the CAB may be able to give reasonable advice also trading standards. You may also be able to get advice on the web from these sources and also maybe worth trying sites like check my file.

The other thing I would say that I would bring this up with an official NHS body as if memory serves me correctly a course of dental treatment has to be officially completed before another can commence, try NHS direct to get some advice on this.

Also if you were disagreeing with the invoice then surely it was in dispute.

I'm very mistrustful of dentists due to a past experience many moons ago as a teenager.
