No post for a while? Royal mail Stafford problems?

I had one of those red "sorry you were out" cards posted through today, on the back it said to wait 24 hours before going to collect. First time I've ever seen that...normally its 3 or 4 hours. Wasn't like they attempted to deliver late either, it said 10am on the card. Not that this is necessarily BAD or anything, just saying ;)

Probably because its still in the back of the postman's car rather than in the delivery office...!

It wasn't long ago that you got your post at breakfast time but over time it turned to lunchtime and now for 3 days in the past week the delivery has came after 4pm.

Does anyone have a local phone number for the Stafford depot please? I've tried searching online but can only find an 0843 number that just rings out.

I've just been verbally abused by my postman because I didn't open the door quickly enough - the fact that he didn't knock the door and I only knew he was there because I heard him struggling to push stuff through was irrelevant apparently.

We've had problems with royal mail in the past. We haven't had any birthday cards delivered for the last five years. Which is quite upsetting for our little girl because she feels unloved when she doesn't get them. They're being sent but they're not arriving.

I also used to be a member of lovefilm. I've had lots of disks go missing and the final straw came when a disk was sent out to me on the Friday and it had been returned to them watched by the following Tuesday. How did they know it had been watched? Well lovefilm confirmed that the disk was sent back in it's return envelope. So it had been opened. So some posty decided to stop stealing the disks and simply watch them for me. Lovefilm said they would investigate, i told them not to bother and cancelled my subscription. I was paying for a service that a postman was receiving on my behalf.

My post men are brill, we have 2 regular guys, they're alway polite and friendly, one even brings a treat for the dog every day, they'll both sign for stuff and leave it round the back if I'm not in, my only issue is with a couple of items I've lost that I've sent, a package of clothes for my cousins newborn baby and an eBay item that caused me a lot of trouble.

There do seem to be strange problems with items that look as if they containg birthday cards, dvds, tickets ... Funnily enough with outgoing items they seem more likely to be delivered it posted in areas with WS or WV postcodes than if posted in the Stafford area.

to be honest, you'd probably get more joy from sending a letter of complaint to the head office.. i doubt very much if the local sorting office can do much! when i phoned them to chase a missing special delivery parcel, they couldn't even help me with that because "we don't have a computer" lol..

I never seem to have any problems when it comes to the usual daily round. But the Royal Mail seems utterly incapable of delivering packages on time and in a good condition.

Today I have been chasing down a package that the Royal Mail tracking service insists has been delivered to my house. IT HASN'T! NO DELIVERY HERE! NO 'SORRY WE MISSED YOU' NOTHING. NO PACKAGE!

And the package in question should have arrived on Saturday anyway, so for it to arrive invisibly four days later is just bloody ridiculous

Argh! Bloody Royal Mail! The postie doesn't bother to knock on the door, nobody answers the phone and now my card says wait until Monday to collect my parcel even though the depot is open until 2. Argh!

Our post lady is borderline useless. we have a small porch at the front of the house - the inner door has a perfectly serviceable hole in the door, it's wide and short, has an unlocked flap on it and is sized and positioned in such a way that it's almost like someone designed it specifically for post.

Nonetheless, we find our post, every day, in the porch. Show tickets, cheques, even birthday cards containing cash all left in the porch for all to help themselves to.

We've complained twice, with no effect.

There appear to be three different posties on our route, 1 post lady & 2 postmen. All of them are very pleasant, cheerful individuals, rarely ever misdeliver post and mostly deliver in the mornings. Not that I give a hoot what time they deliver as much of the stuff we get these days is Cheques and Windfall Prizes, Miracle Cures, Expensively-produced Begging Letters from National Charities, and House/Car/Life Insurance offers. As we are in no need of the Cheques I have taken to forwarding them to the Charities. The rest of the bumf goes back into the pre-addressed envelopes which the senders so kindly enclosed, though I must admit if I am particularly busy I am not fussed about what bumf goes back to what sender. I commend this return posting activity to other Forum Members ; it will only take a couple of minutes from your day and will hopefully irritate the senders and maybe even cost them something in returned post charges.

I'm seriously annoyed with them today.
I've had the usual "Something for you" card posted. Not a problem, I'll pick it up later (I thought). No, it appears I can't.... Please wait 24 hours. No, Royal Mail, I do not agree with my parcel being taken home to some postmans house until tomorrow!! Then I can't ring the number on the reverse of the card as it is unstamped with the sorting office details. I then have to google for a phone number, and ring it only to find that because it's a "Recorded Signed For" item, I need to give the reference number on the card - which ALSO isnt on it.
I've now referred to this thread and rang the two different numbers given above and let it ring both for so long that eventually the line goes dead without an answer.

So yes, it does look like I'll be picking up my parcel tomorrow morning, and with a massive complaint!

I'm sure that they are supposed to give the option to collect from the sorting office later the SAME DAY. That's certainly how it worked when I was a postman some moons ago.

Privatisation will sort them out. Delivery 7 days a week. No problem !!!!.

As long as you live in their 'we can easily make a profit from you' boundaries you'll be laughing, or at least you will be until you call your local office to get a nice Filipino lady reading from a script that doesn't address your problem.

250,000th poster!
Got a card in the post for daughters birthday today.....it was on 11th August...

But strangely no sign of the car tax rebate that was sent off a month ago that we could do with right now....always the way.

It was a joke. The problem is that the government are selling something off that is making a profit. Yes it needs investment and some of the practices need changing. I personally think putting it in to private ownership will not make it better for us.

TBH I'm amazed its making a profit, with the stupid rules on less than cost fees for delivering other peoples mail. I always thought the plan was to destroy its value before the sell off, the Guv must have been gutted when they realised it all still worked and the election (and therefore their chance to flog it to their mates cheap) was looming closer. But who can think privatisation is a bad thing for the general populace? You just have to look at gas/electricity/water/telecomms to see how great we now have it!
