The Lynton Tavern (my poor local! :() when it was The Crossbow, although I was banned from there rather quickly as I was underage.

The "outdoor" at The Trumpet (now the Radford Bank Inn of course) which was like a little off license. Also, the raft races they used to hold in the summer, which were great fun.
I used to work in the Crossbow. Got sent home to change my new cardigan that I was wearing one night as ' Major Carey' didn't like it ! Do you remember the cocktail bar, especially for 'the elite customers' He got me to make my first ever Irish Coffee for one of the customers and nearly had a fit when I got the cream nicely floating on the top.....then I stirred it up! :D

I remember that little outdoor and the raft races at the Trumpet. I also remember going in there to buy my first drink of alcohol in a pub. I didn't know what to order and not wanting to draw attention to the fact that I was underage,I wanted to act as though I knew what I was buying. I looked behind the bar,saw a bottle of 'Pale Ale' and asked for that. It was bloody horrible but I still drank it.

We used to walk to Ingestre Hall ,from Weeping Cross & back,to see Medicine Head etc playing there.

Anyone remember the big old derelict houses on Wildwood? One where the Co-op is now and one at the top of Radford Bank,by Weeping Cross junction. We used to play in them and the one on Weeping Cross was reported to have been used for Black Magic rituals and a dead chicken had been found inside. When we went in there were the black magic markings on the floor. Very Spooky
And Quo...

Actually, where Kwik Save was was a huge barn - hence Barnfields.

Many years ago an adder slithered out of it (the Barn that is) and onto the school grounds, causing much consternation and even possibly the closure of the school for the day - ever-so-slightly before my time (but not that of my brother).

When I used to play around there, the housing estate and Barnields school didn't exist then. (showing my age now aren't I! :lorks: )They had just started to build the houses on Wildwood 1 and there was just fields down to the river behind the old houses . Can't remember the Barn, but I know the one house had one of those big sweeping staircases inside, and downstairs were what must have been the servants quarters. We had great fun inside ,after climbing in through a broken window. We didn't realise at the time how dangerous it really was. The stairs weren't safe and we could have broken ours necks. Although my dad would have killed me himself if he had known where I was!

I do! Wasn't that room called "The Barrel" or something like that? It was about 85/86 when I first went in there. I think Carey might have gone by then. I got banned because the daughter of the landlord (which may well have still been Carey, but I don't think it was) knew me from school and knew that I was only 15 or 16.
It was about 73/74 when I worked there........first started when I was 17,got finished off when he found out my age (one of the customers shopped me in )and told to come back again when I was 18. He was the most vile bloke to work for .I can't remember the name of the cocktail bar but I do remember a few being thrown out and sent around to the lounge bar as they weren't 'suitably attired'.

I only remember it from the back facing onto the school and may well be wrong about it being a barn.

Thought you might like the pic, though. :)

There was also a record shop upstairs in the now Francesco gated community off Bailey St.

It later was taken over by acquaintances of mine, who then moved to North Walls into either what is now the pizza place or the one next door.

Early to mid-90's or something like that, house music, techno - that sort of thing.

I remember a downstairs one - Good Deals* - but, upstairs was B-Sharp, a clothing outlet, as I recall, but that would be more in the '80s. Was there music, as well - or was it a later incarnation.?

*The ancestor of Collectable Records on Wolverhampton Road.

I thought it was upstairs, but it could have been downstairs.

I didn't get where i am today by remembering what happened in the early to mid 90's. :)

It's possible that there was one upstairs - I didn't go up there that often.

Of course, the operator of Good Deals was gon2seed's landlord at one time...

I know this is mentioned in another thread-but can't for the life remember which one....

Anyone know what's happening to the old house on the corner of Stone Rd and Holmcroft Rd? This morning there were men boarding the perimeter of the garden with the type of boards used by commercial developers...

I was trying to find that thread the other day to say much the same thing - they have been digging up the hedges and trees around the perimeter for several days. I'm pretty sure someone must be developing the place to give me as a present as they have read on here how much I love that house :)
