Old Marks and Spencer to become Poundworld?

It's fine to disagree, but how about not being rude.

Quite right and with others I am more than happy to agree to disagree with tact and diplomacy.

However, having been on the end of a nasty tongue lashing from Kyoto on more than one occasion where I have had the temerity to have a different opinion to her,(and witnessed her being unbelievably rude to other people) I now refrain from politeness when replying to her posts.

We're gonna have 2 town centres aren't we :(. The northern one that will be full of charity and pound shops centred on Sports Direct and it's environs, matching the poor and working class demographic of the north end of Stafford, and the south town centre, focused on the new shopping centre which reflects the affluent demographics of the south of town. I'd like this north town to gain independance from the south myself. @littleme might join my new pound oriented fiefdo
If you want to think that then fine... Personally I think all will be fine... People will go to both, especially as a large of people will still pass through as they'll still be parking in the Wickes car park to avoid the charges.

Anyone from south Stafford gonna park at Wickes car park and then shop in the new shopping centre? Nah, thought not! Pretty unlikely that southenders will make much effort in my opinion to visit a town dying on it's arse when all the shops they will need will be in the new centre. Maybe it's just me and they'll be some massive resurgence in our town centre's popularity once all the shops have moved to the new town centre :S

I suppose it depends what you are going to town for, some people will browse and look for things to buy, others will be meeting friends for coffee etc and others will only go to the shops to buy the things they need! Personally I tend to go to town when I need to, so it depends which end of town the shops I need are, I visit the pound shop often as there are always things I need for work. Originally from the North end migrated to the south, So I will probably go to both ends! (Just for the record I prefer the North end!)

It's never taken me anything like as long as 10 mind.

No, nor me, but I'm aware I walk fast and quite often dodging chuggers, slow moving pensioners and people trying to sell you Sky TV take up valuable minutes.

Since moving to St Leonards Ave I also now count 'town' as starting at The Sun / Laura Ashley and going as far as New Look.

Anywhere past New Look (Lidl, The Range etc) involves a special trip and a bit of forward planning.

On the basis it takes about 10 mins to walk from one end of the shopping bit of town to the other this is a very silly conversation indeed.
It took about five minutes to walk from the run down Bull Ring in the Pallasades to what was a beautiful new shopping complex called the Pavilions. 29 years later and after a huge investment in the Bull Ring, the Pavilions partially closed to allow the building of a new Primark. If you have ever been to Brum in the past couple of years, the Pavilions has been largely empty. I don't think it's silly at all. If it can happen in a major city, it can happen to a little parochial town like Stafford.

I think it may be you....I know plenty of people (myself included) who are on the south of the town and walk through to get to the north end....

Never mind all this north and south action, roll on the day when we can walk flat out from the traffic jam at Doxey to the traffic jam at Halfords, all for a few million quid.

Doxey doesn't do traffic jams

But if it did they would be scented and calm and floaty dress like on the breeze
