Old Police HQ Headquarters in Baswich

Enjoying a drop of red.
Well, look on the bright side, it's not like they built something that they're still having to stick bits back onto years later...
I'm sure @Gareth will be along at some point to eloquently tell us all that's not still happening and never did happen.

For all those who desire for this land to be a green park, I presume you are all happy for council tax etc. to be increased substantially to pay for it?

Not only the loss of the initial lump sum payment, but the ongoing maintenance costs of such a large space?

We have been, allegedly, paying a million quid a year for it to remain empty and off-limits - or £2,740 per day - or £100 an hour..

At this rate, we will soon pay whatever it is we get for the sale - before we sell it......

Yes, very happy to pay extra, so long as it can be proven to be spent on the correct thin - i.e mainitaining the space for the public good, but as it seems to be costing a million a year anyway, surely we'd be getting a refund on our taxes!!!

Would a park cost a million a year to maintain? I imagine house values would rise significantly for those close to it as well.

I believe that the trees near the Weeping Cross roundabout are protected and, Although it would make a fantastic park, it just won't happen. More Housing on its way & poss retirementApartments

Never has the word protected been so misused as when discussing a TPO in Stafford. If you protect it, they will chop.

There's a thing!
Retirement villages and apartments? Why the sudden desire to build these everywhere? Do people not live in the houses they have always lived in, any more? If they were to build a village of this type on that site it would be another one right on a busy junction. I'm sure that if I were to retire and want to live somewhere in a nice environment I wouldn't want to live net to a road sucking in fumes!

It would have taken more than a red line to save the "protected" trees at St George's - and the phrase "those worthy of retention have been identified" may give some useful leeway for "mistakes"...

Probably be a few 'mistakes' here also

Perhaps it's safety in numbers, not safe to live on your own these days? Someone there should you have difficulties, or to safeguard your property when your away. (Just heard Aunt & Uncle been turned over whilst away)
Or, because care homes are being closed.
Or, it could be to just down size and spend the kids inheritance money

Pretty soon you'll have to sell your home for medical care when you're old, then you'll be forced to rent somewhere like this.

Sunday Politics discussion on what councils will do to help Syrian refugees. How about filling the Baswich site with pre-fabs? That would go down really well with caring, sharing SBC planners.

Or could it be that developers have turned older people into a lucrative business with less associated hassle than building houses, 'affordable' or not?
