Old Police HQ Headquarters in Baswich

So I stand by my comment that a reason for moving to the Walton/Baswich/Wildwood area may be because of wanting the children to go to a good school.
Unless I have missed something, where, without going private, is there a better school than Walton?
indeed, that was the whole reason for my initial post, in fact - mrs. db and i have recently found ourselves in possession of a small human, and so we're starting to look to the future and want to move to the oakridge / walton catchment area..

One of the reasons for moving back to Stafford and living where we do was because of the local schools. I moved back to Stafford approximately 4 years ago and only recently became a dad (I like to plan ahead).

I believe (hope) we are in the catchment area of some very good schools. My child will be going to Blessed Bills. I never went to this school, however I know a number of people that did and they all speak very highly of the place. My only first hand experience of the place is the annual beer festivals!

I do look at league results and Ofsted reports because they provide a 'guide' on the type of the school my child will be going too, however there are other aspects of the school that are also important that cannot be measured by league tables.

Apart from not liking your attitude when you replied earlier because for some reason you seemed to assume my post had been aimed at you personally, hence my high horse comment, I don't believe that I am being rude.

I would say that your post was aimed at those that think Walton is a good school.
I am one one those therefore your post was aimed at me.

To call someone gullible and plain ignorant just because they have an opinion which you dont share IS rude.

Would you say it to my face if you were standing before me?

I think all the comments about a child's education not solely being provided by a school really go without saying. So taking that as a given point, that education goes beyond schooling, most parents want their child to achieve good exam results, (because rightly or wrongly that is what most employers look at)

Adams Grammar and NGHS which have both been cited as good schools are both in Newport.

There are lots of comments about what people consider a good education to be and whether league tables are important but everyone is avoiding the question.

What would be considered the best school IN STAFFORD without going private?

Enjoying a drop of red.
So, are we anywhere nearer establishing why, what is prime building land as far as I can see, remains unsold?

Price. I was told by a house builder that the asking price was too far high. That house builder is now building elsewhere in Stafford.

The problem with the site now is that the major house builders; Bellway, Bovis, TW and Redrow are now over exposed in Stafford and, therefore, they don't want / need anymore housing in Stafford. The only other house builder that would / could develop this site is Persimmon Homes. Persimmon were looking for sites in Stafford, however you need more than 1 house builder bidding for the site to push up the sale price.

There's so much cash floating around Stafford that the obvious solution would be to build a replica of the historic Baswich House then move the Police HQ back onto the site. Wouldn't need to be more than six storey (including the top floor executive suite) and might only cost £30m, a huge saving for all of us. The old new Police HQ on Weston Road could then become a library with no books or an indoor market with no customers.

dunno how true this is, but i was told last night that originally an offer of around £15m was on the table, but the land owner wanted an extra million so said no ("playing hardball", as our colonial cousins might say).. they toed and froed for a bit, but the seller was insistent that they wanted this extra mill. so the deal fell through.. now, as time has passed and so many other new build developments have sprung up, the land value has depreciated to the point where it's barely worth selling..

should have taken the £15m when the market was booming, innit!

I beg to differ on the cost of the land going down due to other house builds in and around Stafford.
There's nothing more a housing developer likes than saturating the crap out of a small town and then moving on to the next.

If not houses, then another supermarket!?

Selling anything in life, it's all about the wants, needs and bothereds on both sides, nothing new.

From @MatthewEllis: Embroiled in lots of planning & other sensitivities at present. Publicise more in few weeks & then'll be consultation as well
I'm aiming at lot less [than 350 houses] but high qual development. Also trying to help re health centre & pos high end retirement+. But it's all very difficult! Trying to get to where I think locals would agree with but lots of hurdles to get there still after all these months.

Although at our recent meeting SBC say it'll be 2 to 3 months before were enlightened.

Imagine how lovely it would be if quality of life was prioritised and this parcel of land was returned to nature. It could become a wonderful wooded urban park!!

Too radical for Stafford I know, hence my desire to move to a town where history/countryside and quality of life are prioritised over money and fat cat profits !!

Is this from M Ellis, expert Police Person, or M Ellis amateur Planning Person? Either way, it really tells us nothing.
What we need to know is how/when this farce started and why. Was there ever a valid reason to move the HQ to Weston Rd, apart from one of these mutual backscratching deals where someone makes lots of profit out of selling one bit of land without there being any proper plan for the vacated site?
