I went again last Thursday. My meal was completely delicious and the staff are wonderful. I'm sure you'll enjoy your evening Michelle.

Had a menu through from this place on Friday and noticed they do a "Sunday buffet" on Sunday afternoons for £9.85.

Anyone been for one? Is the buffet "all you can eat"? Also would like to know how much kids are charged and what age brackets?

Might give this a go in the new year.

No idea but intrigued! Hope it's not at the expense of quality, I tend to eat small meals so have no real interest in all you can eat past the choice available.

Planning on visiting between christmas and new year, so popped in to find out opening times while in town on Saturday. Might be useful for anyone considering visiting to know that they are basically open for lunch and dinner all the way through that period apart from Monday, they are closed on Mondays.

I'll have you know my body is a finely tuned machine, like an alcohol fuelled dragster. You don't put solids in a hydraulic system!

Seriously though, I don't have scales but about 11 stone and a bit at 6' in height going by my last chack. A year ago I was more like 11.5 and that was the heaviest I've ever been, when I met the OH I was under 10 stone. But I don't have a car and have a full time job, which I believe knocks at least 2 stone of most people. I cycle almost daily, even if it is only 3 miles in total, and spend an hour each day walking as people from work can't find me on my lunch break then. I almost deserve my alcoholism, I've earned it!

Went here last night for a birthday celebration, hadn't booked but a table was found for us at 7. Was much busier than I was expecting, whole of downstairs was full.

The Service: Crap really! Left way too long to order our meals, and that happened only when I flagged down the waitress. Once the food came, not once did anyone come back to see if everything was OK or if we needed anything else. Once our main meals were eaten we were left to our own devices until I again flagged down the waitress to get a look at the dessert menu. All in all, pretty crap!

The Food: Well it is after all the food we went for, and I have to say it was the most authentic proper Indian food I've ever had, and I really enjoyed everything that was ordered. Three veggies had the 2 types of Dal and a Potato thing, and the Dal was top notch, as was the rice and Naan. No idea on the meat meal, but the lad ate it all!!

Price: It's not cheap, £64 for 4 main meals ( 3 veggie). 3 rice, 3 Naan and 4 soft drinks.

Value - The food was really good, so although I thought it was expensive it was good value in that I'd rather pay a bit more and have a really good meal than have piles of not very good food that I struggle to eat all of for a cheaper price - if that makes sense!!

Would return :D

I've been twice now and had a similar experience to kyoto49. The food is fantastic but the service is bizarre. We had good service up until our mains had been cleared, after which we were ignored for a good 20mins. No offers of dessert, coffee or the bill- just nothing. Both times.

Which is doubly annoying because its the only place in Stafford offering proper Indian puds and I really really want to try them but not after being ignored for so long!

If you had a bad experience I would let them know post event so they can reflect on it and hopefully improve the service next time. Perhaps email them with a link to this post so they can keep tabs on their performance.?

I am not a fan of tripadvisor , it's too easy to manipulate

But I know that running a business that works needs good communication , both ends

Disappointed...

Have never been before, but met up with 2 old friends so thought we'd give it a try, rather than Island or Narvana which are both superb.

We expected a different more authentic taste so went for unfamiliar dishes - starters were the prawns - 3 on a plate, one of which was burnt - should have sent it back really, the bombay crab-cakes which were tasteless - no crab taste whatsoever, and the Adraki lamb chops - very skinny and I think one bite each

I went for SeaBass Kerala curry - a bizzare taste, very sour and watery - totally overpowered the fish and I left most of it. My friend had the Chicken Tikka Taranga - which was acceptable but nothing special, and the other friend had the Lamb Shank shahi which was the best dish - tender and slightly sweet but very good

Add in 3 pints of Cobra a £4.65 a pop and our bill came to £81 - high in our opinion for a mediocre meal

The decor is really good with a high ceiling and exposed beams. Service was OK but nothing startling (i.e. no recommendations or conversation, just took the order and brought the food)

Maybe we caught them on a bad night, but wouldn't go again, and certainly not at those prices

I'm going back to the Island - which would have been nearer £50 and better food

Damned shame, was looking forward to it - but maybe our palates aren't sophisticated enough

As you mentioned, if the food was bad then it would have been a good idea to tell them and let them try and correct it. I know the scenario though, when you can't be bothered to wait for another one to be cooked etc etc....

I agree though that the prices do seem steep - especially £4.65 for a pint of Cobra.... whats that all about. That's why I love Narvana and I can take my own tipple which really makes a big difference to the bill.

The prices put me off anyway so I was unlikely to go with Narvana / The Island / Nishads / Mela Lounge all being so good, and reviews such as this make me more likely to stick to my guns on that one.

Have they changed chef?

We haven't been before but were going to go early doors before going to the Gatehouse.

Will probably still give it a go, any meal that I havent had to cook myself is a bonus.
