I quite fancied trying this place when it first opened but have heard lots of mixed reviews since and now I'm not so sure. I thnk I'll try the viceroy first, then I can see if it does top the lot as I've previously heard.

So we went Sat night.
4 of us and our friends had been before and loved it.

We were greeted nicely, although we had booked online and our order wasnt in the book. Not a problem as it was early and they could fit us in.
I had the booking ref etc. Then checked for our booking for 10 people in March.....no they didnt have that listed either. Oh dear.

Lovely decor, staff pleasant.

2 of us had the scallops, one the prawns and I had the crab cakes. All of us enjoyed the starters but we agreed that Jims prawns were the best.

Main course.
3 of us like spicy and one likes mild.
The one that liked the mild ordered chicken dum pukht, ( because it didnt have a picture of a chilli on it) I ordered Kadhai lamb and one ordered lamb rogan josh. Cant remember the other meal.

All the meals were incredibly hot. Our friends that had been before said that they had ordered the same thing but this time there were a million times more chillis in it. Mine was lovely but very hot. Two couldn't eat it. Even the mild one was massively hot.

We did say to the waitress that they were hotter than last time and she said "in India they eat food hotter than here, its the spices"...we then explained that we love Indian food but the same meal was hotter than last time.

We are now thinking of cancelling our table of 10 in March because two of the party dont like/cant/wont eat very hot food.

Bugger, won't be back then. Was happy to pay for quality, but won't pay over the odds for stuff I can get anywhere.

Oh good grief. In that case that will be another short-lived replacement for Stephanie's. I was happy to pay for food which was really, really good.

But if they've given up, so have I.

OK, menu really looks wrong. Was somewhere different, now it looks like the menu is just an identikit piece of crap. Even the prices now look like they're trying to capture the majority rather than the locals.

Nearly ended up there Thursday, but wasn't sure if curry was what I needed so went to the Dog and a doublet instead!

Has it changed hands? The website has a menu section but that doesn't seem to show a menu any longer, just pictures of the dishes they used to serve. It also says that it is listed on Sundays whereas the (inactive) Twitter feed promotes a Sunday buffet.

If it is just another identikit Indian restaurant it won't last very long in an out-of-the-way location without convenient parking or easy atmosphere.

They were supporting the Eye Works relaunch and charity fundraiser tonight with food. Have to say it was very good. My daughter joined another family and shared their meal which was extremely good. Can't tell you what it was chicken in a tasty sauce of tomatoes base but it tasted delicious, naan bread was fresh and not at all greasy, the food wasn't overly spiced. It was well presented and staff were friendly and polite. Will definitely be using this for the next take out.
