soz for the double-post - only just realised that they have a thread of their own!

love Romance.. proper chicken tikka, done as a shish kebab over an open flame - none of this "elephant leg on a stick" like most other kebab shops ;)

We tried 'Romance'for the first time on Saturday night after being dissappointed with Perfect Pizza lately and we had received a Romance leaflet through our door . Will certainly be using Romance again!
The pizza was one of the best we had ever had and hubby enjoyed his Tikka Kebab. The kebab was a bit too spicy for me with the Chilli sauce that hubby got added on but I'm sure I could get a bit milder sauce on mine should I order one next time. There was loads of meat in the kebab.

They get the thumbs up from me :)

yeah, i have mint sauce on mind which is lovely.. don't get me wrong, i love spicy food (their bhuna kebab is smashingtons when i fancy something with a bit of "oomph" :keke: ), but i do like the contrast of the chicken tikka meat with the fresh crispy salad and cool mint sauce

i've had their beef burgers a few times (again, lovely - loads of red onion, and i am all about the red onion) but never their chicken boigers.. what are they like? just chicken breast, or is it breaded? marinated in any way (e.g. tikka)?

must.. not.. have.. romance again tonight.. twice in.. one weekend.. too much.. to bear :xd:

How do I edit this?
I used to love Romance - when I first came to Stafford I'd have said their pizzas were better than any of the chains....

I stopped using them 3 or 4 months ago after a couple of very disappointing experiences. I'd concluded that since all the kitchen staff had gone to Vivere it just was just going to end up as another late night kebab place.

Still, if forumites have had good experiences recently, I might give them another go.

Took a hour to deliver for me when i orderd a few weeks ago on a night i thought wouldn't be busy

And the food was alright, nothing special though i'll have to try them again to get a better experience and opinion, posts here show maybe it's a good place to order from - compared to other places after all

Last time I had a pizza from here it was distinctly average and not a patch on the ones they produced in the first couple of years. They went from a nice, thin, stone-baked base to a thicker one not dissimilar to the ones used at loads of other places. I've not had one for quite a while now though, because...

About a year ago I ordered for myself and 2 friends and was told the usual 45min – 1hr delivery time. After an hour and 20mins I called and asked how they were getting on with my order. I was fobbed off with the usual "It's round the corner, mate" but decided to give it a few more minutes. After an hour and 45mins I called again, only to be told the same. I said that we'd been waiting for so long and I wasn't happy so wanted to cancel the order.

The bloke on the phone (who I later found out was the manager at the time...not sure if he still is) said something along the lines of "If you want crap food delivered in 5mins go somewhere else", to which I replied that I was more than happy to wait for decent food but when it's an hour late and I've already been told it's "round the corner" then I don't want it. He put the phone down and I called somewhere else to order. About 15mins later the Romance delivery driver arrived with the food I'd cancelled, so I said I'd spoken to his manager and no longer wanted it. The driver left, but returned a few minutes later with his boss on the phone. His boss then launched a tirade of abuse down the phone, at one point calling me a "f**king white b*stard", whilst I stared open-mouthed at the driver and my friends in complete disbelief. He ranted for about 5 minutes without me saying a word, then I managed to tell him that I would report him for racial abuse (something I never imagined I'd have to do!) and that I'd tell everyone I knew about what had happened.

I was going to come on here straight away and post the above story but, as it had just happened and I didn’t want any comeback, I left it and subsequently forgot about it. It may well be under new management since my experience, but I'd rather go elsewhere now.

db finds great merriment in informing me that he's had/is going to have a "racist kebab"!

Yep, and the only way the manager would have known this for certain is if he'd asked the delivery driver so he could racially abuse me! It was very bizarre.
I guess his stab at your legitimacy was a shot in the dark........

yeah, they're usually ~50 min's for delivery, but since i'm a regular customer i know this, so always order in advance accordingly. :)

it's because all food is cooked fresh to order, presumably (i.e. proper chicken tikka shish kebab) rather than just carving it off one of those elephant-legs-on-a-spit like other places..

And tall, with a lovely smile, but ever so slightly scary-ishhhhh. But he isn't,if you know what I mean?
Why, that's mighty kind of you! Hahaha. I'm only scary-ish because I fit the description of most criminals; it's not my fault that I'm tall and balding though! That's the only reason I shave me head.

Anyway....gimme your purse!

Most places, including Romance, offer chicken doner (elephant leg) or chicken shish (on skewers, like you're on about). All you have to do is order the right one! This goes for Tusba, Ali's, Al Karim's, Parkside Chippy etc etc....
