SADLY MISSED - The early water features inside the Guildhall Shopping Centre
(Cheers Tumble weed)
I was led to believe that a fear of Legionnaires' Disease was part of the reason for the removal - that and the fear of someone chucking a bottle of Fairy liquid in. It was such a temptation, I know.
I remember doing that to someones kettle at a party once. I'd left by the time it was boiled, but apparently the kitchen was suds a foot deep across the whole floor :)

The first time that I saw it was when someone had done it to the fountain in the roundabout in Newcastle. The suds actually reached the D-Road, as it was a particularly windy day, blowing along like tumbleweed.

don't mention the blinds
I miss the power cuts, which were something Ted Heath should always be proud of.Schools shut for weeks at a time and there was always some fun when the lights went out.....

Ted Heath, the astronomers' friend. They were great times - sitting in pubs by candle-light - where has the romance gone? It was all a bit like wartime - keep calm and stay going.

Similarly... sadly missed the South End club on Silkmore lane. Think I got my first snog at a disco there one Saturday night. Oh happy days!!

Who learned to swim at the brine baths? I did!
Me too. Spent many happy hours there in the early 70's. When I started to swim in the new place I wondered why I kept sinking :)

They'd kill for that place now - they could make so much of its history, and spas are gaining in popularity all the time so it'd bring extra revenue for the town too. Aah, hindsight - it's a wonderful thing!

I also remember the old layout of the start of Wolverhampton Rd, when there ised to be a lovely old antique shop on the corner, near the White Lion (which the council apparently promised to take down piece by piece and rebuild in a location where such a special 17th century building could be appreciated - that was the early 70's and it's not seen the light of day since!)

Anyone else remember 'Rags and Tatters' in that yard down the side alley near the Odeon? There was always an interesting array of little shops there, which have all disappeared over the years.

Wasn't the antique shop Browse? Which has a current incarnation on the sandon road.
As for the White Lion I belive it has officially been misplaced.

Browse was great. Got some lovely things there and always enjoyed a visit and a ponder. So, it's on Sandon rd now? Cheers, will have to go again next time I'm down.

Unfortunatley im sure your right. I'm sure if someone had a flat packed pub lying round they would notice.

Flat pack pubs? Could make festivals go better!
Wasn't there a Good Ideas thread somewhere? What about an inflatable pub - it could be held up by the pressure in the beer lines, and when it ran out it would automatically deflate - seems obvious to me. It could double as a sort of 'adult' bouncy castle and would have the side effect of possibly reducing alchohol induced injuries. It might even, therefore, attract sponsorship from NHS Direct.

Less accidents means less staff needed - the last thing the NHS want. As with all government bodies, failure to use a budget results in its withdrawal, meaning rather than prevent accidents they're more likely to push you down the stairs after a few pints.

Or at least thats my excuse ossifer, am not pissed really. Twas those pesky nurses :strange:

Use any closed wards as nightclubs. They're structurally quite suitable and any injured parties could just be slid down a chute into Casualty. Additional income and less expense. It makes at least as much sense as selling cholesterol cakes in the foyer.

Of course, there may be a downside for a certain type of person - it is possible that a Forum member could end up barred from her place of work for non-work-related issues.
