Great night last night, first experience of comedy outside of the traffic near new look on a saturday. The venue was excellent and it was rammed from very early on. The cocktails were excellent, a huge range and very enjoyable. The only downside of the drinks was that they were running out fast of non cocktail drinks. Cider was gone before 8pm.
That said the compere Paul Savage was excellent, off the cuff for a lot of his stuff and just naturally funny. A greta link for the comedians. First comedian was a young fella called Red Redmond, I think this set the standard for the quality of the comedians here. We were expecting flat jokes, shuffling from foot to foot and enthusiastic amateurs. This was not the case, this guy, as they all were, was polished, very funny, and really very very good. You know when someone strips off to a leotard, rubs on baby lotion and stands on the bar you are in for a treat.
After Red Redmond was short sets by 3 comedians, Phil Pagett, superb in a similar vein to Tim Vine, very quick one liners. Heena Patel, although not my cup of tea, she went down very well, and Curtis Threadgold, a fella from the north west, again very polished, very confident, and excellent.
After another interval was the final act, which this page tells me is Jay Handley, he looked like Jesus, and a portion of his act was based on this, he went down very well and a very good show closer.
All in all, it was an excellent night, really well organised, very funny comedians, great compere, excellent venue and I also managed to win the goody bag of books, DVD's and CD's, which was nice. Would definitely go to another event.
