I was up at 6 o'clock opening all the doors to let some cooler air in, it,s just gone past 30 c here at 10:15. A few more clouds today does not look to be holding the temps down much. Plan A, early lunch and then find a shady spot for the deck chair. :)

I didn't want to have to say it.

I swore I never would.

But

IT'S TOO HOT!!!

My job requires a certain dress code (understandably) so today I will be putting on jeans and a polo-neck and head out to work - joy!

I got up mega early to get my jobs done so that I could have an afternoon in the garden with my book...it was lovely at 10.00 o clock.

Now that I am ready to go outside its clouded over.

So much for it being the hottest day of the year.

This cloud should break up a bit after lunch, should give temps a bit of a boost unless we are hit by a thunder storm.

We've just had a quick shower of rain, but stopped again now. The plan to relax on the patio has been scuppered by the builders next door drilling, grinding , hammering and whatever else they are doing.Been noisy as hell all day!

More grinding & hammering from next door?! Do they ever stop?! :strange:

The BBC weather app says there will be NO thunderstorms over the next few days....which almost certainly means there WILL be, probably hail & snow too!

I just saw 2 bolts of lightning over to the east as I came up the bank to Coton fields, seems to have gone away now.

Wish we were at the beach!

I've brought the smallest child home from school for the afternoon as its sports day & she can't take part, or even sit outside & watch (broken arm). We're sat inside watching CBBC, I didn't realise just how hot it was till I just went outside - the heat nearly knocked me over!

@Carole - I'm thinking that you may have traveled to some very hot places in your job - any hints or tips?

I have had all the doors/windows closed since about 8am, the theory being it will keep the heat out :hmm: I have tried it before and it does seem to be better than trying to let any breeze through the house on very hot days. Also have a couple of awnings outside keeping sun of the south facing windows.

I'm sure this works - I was out most of yesterday so when I got home the house was lovely & cool, but then I thought it would be a good idea to open all of the doors & windows to the breeze through - big mistake! Within about an hour we were all boiling....so today they're staying shut until (if) its cooler in the evening.

I remember when my little one was little she had exactly the same problem, broken arm and not able to partake in Sports Day. School involved her by letting her count things and supervise. Surprised yours wasn't able to do this?? Pretty sure it's the same school albeit with a different headmaster.

Hospital told us that she's not to sit outside in the heat / sun, but it was my decision to bring her home (& to a very convenient drs appt) - I couldn't see the point of her having to sit inside on her own (in the front office with the staff) while everyone else enjoyed the sports day & family picnic outside. (Sports day now lasts most of the day & all the family's, parents & children have a picnic in the middle of it).

I'm sure its the same school, if your daughter only left in the last few years then the headmaster would of been Mr Taylor :)

Wished I kept windows shut today, I also thought a breeze would help but it felt like I was down wind from an aeroplane exhaust! Windows firmly shut tomorrow.

I keep the windows & curtains closed on the sunlight side of the house and the curtains open and the windows just cracked open on the shady side. Also crack open the loft hatch. This seems to work quite well.

Balls.

Not enjoying this at all - this is England goddammit. Mind you, i dare say 'knives of Sheffield steel' are (were) forged at higher temperatures.

I was hoping to do nothing at all tomorrow in response to this hideousness, but my bath, the drainage thereof, needs ministration.

Double balls.
