When did Mr Cartwright retire then? Wasn't a fan of him.
Mr Cartwright was lovely :) He was head when my eldest two were there. It can't of been so long ago though as Mr Taylor was only head for a few years. (I've been going to that school for 20 years, with only 1 year off in the middle between youngest & middle child! )

Husband got home from work last night & immediately opened all the doors & windows - gone was my lovely coolness & we sat there like roasting hogs all night.

My other tip for keeping cool is to visit the freezer section in supermarkets & lotier for as long as possible. :)

Wished I kept windows shut today, I also thought a breeze would help but it felt like I was down wind from an aeroplane exhaust! Windows firmly shut tomorrow.

I think we shall be spared another day like yesterday, at least in the immediate future. During the afternoon I took a deckchair out with a drink and lasted about half an hour, drink ran out :pint:, and had to retreat. Was like an oven outside. Don't remember a hotter day here in the last twenty odd years.

Dam this weather just had a gust of wind that made the window to my
computer room rattle itself of the latch, slam and break the glass,
in the process cut me, only a plaster, but the window is now held
together with Fablon and brown tape, good job I'm insured.
My first claim in 40 years, time to get some money back!

Not just us being cooked. :lorks:

Record breaking heat across the globe

Unprecedented June heat has scorched parts of four continents over the past week, with temperature records broken in Asia, Europe, North America and South America. Pakistan's June heat wave has already claimed over 1000 lives, whilst record breaking temperatures have sparked huge wildfires that have ravaged homes in Washington State. Further south, parts of Colombia have sizzled in temperatures of up to 42 C. Meanwhile, in Europe, temperatures have reached record highs in Spain and the UK.

We must have been dropping/ picking up our kids at the same time! I really did not like Mr Cartwright. There was a Mr Lewis before him, but he wasn't Headmaster for long when the eldest was there. In them days, it was up at Paddock Close on Trinity Fields. 2 minutes walk from home. Them were the days...........

@Carole - I'm thinking that you may have traveled to some very hot places in your job - any hints or tips?

Yes I have been to some very hot places ...India, Dubai etc where it can go over 40 degrees. Then it was just unbearable and no way could I go outside in it.

I dont really have tips for keeping cool but I do drinks LOADS of water.

I can't take the heat as much as I used to, I love the sun but I couldnt lie in it all day.

25.7 in my garden apparently, and 39.3 in the greenhouse. I'm not sure if I'm happy or not to be in an air conditioned office.

I have come to the conclusion that I am undoubtedly British -

I love the relentless rain, the horizontal drizzle, the merky fog and the down right miserable summers.

It's TOO HOT and I don't like it!!

As predicted by Mr Marwood :)

The high summer temperatures are being blamed for the suspension of train journeys on First Transpennine's Express service between Hull and York.

The company says a rail has buckled in the heat at Selby and trains are currently unable to run through Selby station.

Spent the morning patching my shed, in the glorious sunshine, now sitting at the
comp with a fan blowing air on my wet naked back, I have a spray bottle of water
that I give my self a quick burst of, so deliciously cool, and a sip of cranberry juice
with loads of ice in, I will have a nice cool bath later and return to the internet in
just my underpants.
