Did anyone want the library to move from here?

I forgot to add-
SBC get quote from:
outside contract of an advisory committee, to advise on the shifting of books from one place ta'tuther in a proper and above board health and safety type manner, estimated cost of 3k, actually comes out at 74k

I'll have my council tax go up in 2 years at approx. 4% if you don't mind, no, nah didn't think so, no matter how many votes go in for this lot or the next, this is what'll happen.
oh, and Stafford'll look a little bit zhitter in the mean time.

peckers'up!

We are of course talking about a council that justified the building of Scaffoldshire Place over the existing arrangements because something like £250000 per year was going be saved AFTER a period of 25 years...

I wonder how those figures stack up now that the Martin Street buildings still haven't been sold and the premises at SP not been leased out?

Financial matters, do not seem to be a strong point of decision makers and advisors at SCC.

Have they won their awards yet?

I can feel a rant, so apologies in advance :)

So, we go the library , not weekly I admit, but we do go!! And one of the things I'm most passionate about is the wide range of DVD's and CD's for rent. I noticed on our last visit that the 'just purchased' section was gone. Asked the lady behind the counter where it had moved to, and was informed that the library was no longer purchasing new DVD's and CD's. Apparantly they weren't making enough profit! I walked quickly away for fear of expressing my thoughts to the poor counter lady, but I'm absolutely disgusted. I'd noticed on our last few visits that the stock of DVD's and CD's was greatly reduced, but it never occurred to me this PUBLIC SERVICE would be disappearing. And then I looked around and saw just how sparse even the book sections were..

What the hell is happening here? When did running a library be about making a profit? What happens now to the large section of the public who don't have super fast broadband and all the techy kit required to download and store films? Or to those members of the public who can't find the independant film they would like to watch on the commercially oriented Netflix?

I'm absolutely fuming. The library 'service' , what a joke that is, is meant to provide a service to the people of Stafford (shire), not to make a profit for the fat idiots in their new and crumbling offices. For the firt time in my life I have actually filled in one of those feedback (complaint) forms. Doubt it'll change much but it's a sad day for me, this realisation that no-one really cares, and those that do are in such small numbers so as to make no difference. Who voted these f*cking conservative tw*ts in anyway :(

Good News possibly...

http://www.staffordshirenewsletter....n-shire-hall/story-30420686-detail/story.html

NATIONAL experts in regenerating historic buildings have been drafted in to consider the future of Stafford's Shire Hall.

The Prince's Regeneration Trust has been commissioned by Staffordshire County Council to assess possible future uses of the Grade II* listed building, which closed yesterday and will remain so until future uses can be found for it.

The trust will also look at the benefits and risks of different approaches and how they might be funded.

The charity, founded by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, has worked on more than 90 projects in two decades, including the Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent which is used as the setting for BBC TV's Great Pottery Throw Down.

Ian Parry, Staffordshire County Council's deputy leader, said: "The county council is committed to ensuring Shire Hall is maintained and preserved for future generations.

"The intention is to find ways of keeping it, and the buildings behind it, busy, successful and able to have a viable future that also projects the heritage of our county town.

"The Prince's Regeneration Trust is a world-leader in revitalising historic buildings and I am confident that this will produce the best solution for a sustainable future for the building.

"At the same time we are already talking to other public and private sector partners to discuss various possibilities and it's fair to say there has been an encouraging response."

The closure of the Shire Hall has caused a storm of controversy in the town, with campaigners dubbing the move to mothball it "appalling". Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy is also calling on the county to move quickly to get it back open.

The gallery based in Shire Hall opened for the last time yesterday. Arts will now be mobile, with exhibitions travelling around the county. The multi-sensory environment room will be moved to a room at nearby Stafford Library and is due to reopen later this month.

The Prince's Regeneration Trust works with community groups, building owners and public bodies to create sustainable futures for cherished buildings. Its successful projects include revitalising a hospital, former public baths and a theatre in Blackpool's famous Winter Gardens complex.

That was always on the agenda as soon as it was announced the Gallery was closing. It's just a box ticking exercise. The Shire Hall will be sold off as soon as SCC can do it.

I'm not entirely sure how a questionnaire about my experiences with the following businesses in the last 12 months -

Turkish Airlines
VARIDESK
Karen Millen
Hotels Combined
Virgin Experience Days
Wix
None of the above

- constitutes 'good news' about the Shire Hall, but i'm willing to take your word for the fact that it does.
