Cllr Parry says that the Shire Hall is not officially for sale! What does that mean! The Prosperous(?) scrutiny meeting voted against a motion put by Cllr Maureen Compton not to sell the Shire Hall and had a majority! It was 4 for Cllr Compton's motion and 5 against. So, that means the scrutiny meeting are in favour of selling the Shire Hall or probably the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. As regards Staffordshire being the "Creative" County, it is definitely the "Creative Council".

er, can we publicise this piss poor excuse for a response from a piss poor excuse for a representative? we don't need a condescending and highly selective history of the building, we need guarantees it will remain in public ownership and appropriate public use.

I need to explain that the Shire Hall itself has for most of its life served as a Court centre. It is only in the recent past that it has been used as a shop and small art space, plus a café.
This email has been annoying me beyond belief.

Quite apart from the dreadfully condescending tone, it is also just plain incorrect. Right from the beginning it was designed as a public space for the people of Stafford. As well as the courtrooms, the main room that now forms the gallery was used as an assembly room and hosted balls and other entertainments. This has been the 'life' it has served.

The Shire Hall also has two Court rooms which are used as a museum and are also listed and protected.
Thanks Trace, we didn't know that. Oh wait, yes we did - and only one of them is open to the public. It's almost like we know more about the f**king building than you do. Glad you got your 'need' to 'explain' off your chest, though.

* is only slightly less annoyed after getting that off own chest *

Watched the County Council meeting on the website (sad person that I am). Cllr Compton asked again about the possible sale of the Shire Hall. Cllr Parry stated that the Council has not made any decision at this time but we are simply considering it in the wider context of Stafford's development. He was then asked what did this mean? He answered that there were empty buildings in Martin Street and the County wanted to attract business and make the area marketable. He stated that the County might not end up owning the Shire Hall but it would be improved! So there you have it. This will eventually go to a Cabinet meeting and then they will make a definite decision! the Library is definitely being moved to Staffordshire Place because that is what people want said a senior officer at the County.

It's not what i want - which people want this? I find it extraordinarily difficult to believe that this statement is based on any research whatsoever.
It's not what i want either, so there's two of us, so two makes not 'everyone', heck just one of us makes not 'everyone'!?

By'Christ, there's some delusional dingbats in charge of positions that matter/count.

Reshuffle anyone?

I would be surprised if they find many, if any people that say they want the library to move. I don't know the drivers for it moving but assume there must be some, but without seeing them then I don't want it to move. Having said that I am not completely against it moving if the business case is there, all things considered, but there would have to benefits to the move and assurances along with it.

Can you imagine the cost of moving the (library) books?

At a guess, SBC get quote from:
outside contractor removal firm, to shift the books estimated cost of 84k, actually comes out at 167k
outside contractor, office supplier to supply new bookcases and the like, estimated cost of 40k, actually comes out at 79k
outside contractor, electronics firm that promise the world with new technology in order to make the tracking of books better and faster!?, estimated cost of 89k, actually comes out at 167k
outside contractor, to make Shire Hall secure estimated cost of 14k, actually comes out at 41k

Yeah, the savings are going to be huge!

Enjoying a drop of red.
We are of course talking about a council that justified the building of Scaffoldshire Place over the existing arrangements because something like £250000 per year was going be saved AFTER a period of 25 years...

I wonder how those figures stack up now that the Martin Street buildings still haven't been sold and the premises at SP not been leased out?

Financial matters, do not seem to be a strong point of decision makers and advisors at SCC.
