Stafford isn't the only place suffering, scc is the county decision maker so not just stafford.

Regarding the shirehall better emailing Atkins head of SCc instead heenan at sbc, he has no clout in the final say.

If they carry on the way they're going, there'll be no F in Stafford.

Just to keep everyone informed. I watched the webcast of the County Council meeting. Question put down by Cllr Maureen Compton stated "What advice have you been given regarding the sale of the Shire Hall"? The answer from Cllr Parry was "The County Council has not made any decision at this time to sell the Shire Hall". A petition of 2,900 names was handed in by Cllr Compton. It seems we have partly won!

The County council is doing nothing but "Achieve Excellence". they are Achieving Excellence for day centres for people with disabilities (closing them), they are achieving excellence for libraries (by closing them or letting them be run by volunteers) and they are achieving excellence for young people (by closing their youth centres). What a wonderful 1984 council.

I think most on here are acutely aware of that. However, this is a Stafford forum, in a section that is dedicated directly to Stafford issues, and is a thread whose topic is in relation to a Stafford building. Which happens to be in Stafford.

I've just had a cursory glance to see whether other towns in Staffordshire have their own forums. The answer is yes, but the traffic here by far exceeds any of the others - probably put together (in terms of volume of posts.):bravo: So, we either like moaning a lot, or don't like getting out much in the 'real world'. Or both.

Just now, after following up my initial email and asking for a reply, i finally got a reply from one of my emails i sent to leader@staffordbc.gov.uk

Please accept my apologies for not replying to you sooner. I passed your e-mail to the Leader of the Council, Councillor M R Heenan, for his attention. However, the Shire Hall does not come under the control of Stafford Borough Council but Staffordshire County Council, therefore, I have forwarded your request to the County Council for the attention of their Leader, County Councillor Philip Atkins.

Again my apologies for not coming back to you sooner.

I emailed Heenan and Atkins (over 2 weeks ago) without reply!

SCC may cover all the county but what is the county called? STAFFORDshire.

So SCC should look after Stafford properly in my opinion.

Cameron and co must be dead chuffed

Having imposed the huge cuts on local authorities he has now deflected any criticism into hundreds of fragments across the country - against the local councils

Trebles all round!

From Key, Tracy (D,L&T) [tracy.key@staffordshire.gov.uk]

I am writing further to your email sent to the Leader of Stafford Borough Council dated 10 February 2014 regarding the above which has been passed to me in my capacity as Cabinet Member for Finance, Resources and Transformation.

I recognise the concerns that people may have regarding Shire Hall.

I need to explain that the Shire Hall itself has for most of its life served as a Court centre. It is only in the recent past that it has been used as a shop and small art space, plus a café. It is not officially an art gallery and does not meet the standards or requirements of a gallery which could accept important exhibitions.

It does have a useful role in displaying small art shows and events however.

The Shire Hall also has two Court rooms which are used as a museum and are also listed and protected.

The Shire Hall is not officially for sale and any decision on its future use will take into account that it is a historic listed building that is important to the people of Stafford and whatever it is used for in the future will reflect the importance of the building.

Kind regards

Ian Parry
Deputy Leader
Cabinet Member for Finance, Resources & Transformation
Councillor for Stone Rural

So the exhibition which showed the Staffordshire Hoard wasn't important then?

Ian Parry should hang his head in shame with that response.

That's clear then. The Shire Hall is a p!$$ poor, excuse for a gallery which has been not up to standard since its conception. I am sure all the staff who have worked and promoted it for all those years feel really appreciated. Why Ian Parry doesn't become a motivational speaker, I will never know.

Spent the day with carrot crunchers and as I came back to Staffordshire I noted that we no longer a Creative County

New signage - plain old Staffs

Of course, the Shire Hall Gallery could be their 'giveaway'

No intention of shutting it but it causes a mighty distraction from all the old folks services being binned and then after a bit of huffing and puffing they appear to 'concede' to public pressure and the 'people' get their 'victory'
