Someone to put up curtain poles in Stafford?

i've just moved into a new gaff, and need someone to install 3 curtain poles for me.. i've got the poles (insert cock joke/casually racist eastern european joke here) - i just need someone to drill the holes, put them up, etc..

i'd rather go with a "proper" handyman than someone who is looking to earn a few quid and reckons they're handy with a drill.. any recommendations? i'd like to get them put up asap (i.e. this week), if possible..

thanks :keke:

Do you have the wooden beams? If so, I'm fairly confident I could do it well depending on the kind of poles and fixings. You can come round mine to inspect my work first if you wish. =)

I have extensive experience of new houses and piss poor plasterboard walls, I can recommend a few materials worth considering if this is the case. If its a real house then just a drill and standard rawl plugs will usually suffice.

What to you do with stupid Sandy walls that disintigrate when you drill into them, and usually you end up with holes 10 times the size you wanted??

I can tell you live up my end of town! LOL I especially like that the dust that comes out also stains the carpet. Drill deeper and use decent quality plugs not the crap that usually comes included would be my advice. Also there is nothing to stop you packing the hole that you have drilled out as it should firm up once you have the screw in. I must admit it is a bit nerve wrecking putting things like TV's on the wall though isn't it. Our last house was new so I just bought special rawl plug plaster board plugs that just popped in. Easy, but I wouldn't be that confident on them holding up a new telly.

Surely a man of your caliber can operate a drill and a screwdriver!

not as simple as that.. plus i'm not a DIYer, so whilst i don't shy away from yer basic changing a plug/putting up a flatpack/etc. i certainly don't have a masonry drill lying around..

the chap who did it in the end had a right kerfuffle, for exactly the reasons tek says above - brand new house, so it's just plasterboard on top of breezeblocks (or something) so even great big long screws couldn't get a decent purchase to hold the pole up (fnar).. fisher fixings did the trick in the end - little screws that splay out when, er, screwed, thus acting as a kind of very long barb to hold onto the backside of the plasterboard..

anyhoo, job done - thanks all :P

Aghh! You have it exactly right! Thanks for the info, we almost always end up having to pack holes we've drilled :) Glad too to know its not just our house!

I got some great plugs from lidl recently, came with a tool to fit them too. You just drilled a hole, poked it through then used the tool to tighten. Then you just pulled the screw back out and mounted whatever was required.

But yeah, plasterboard sucks!
