She's worth her weight in gold, I have Spaniel envy.....I got away with a spider free night last night, so I'm expecting more than one will appear tonight...& I still haven't tackled the small child's toy boxes or room yet......

Karma has finally got me. Was sat on my break last night (3am this morning to be precise), reading my book, mindin me own. When I happened to see sumat move just out the corner of my eye. I swear to god it was a spider as big as the palm of my hand! Didn't hang about see where it was travelling to, made a sharp exit asap.

Normally I wouldn't agree, but the other day when the cat brought home a bag of raw sausages & left them on the door mat - when we found them they were covered with massive (MASSIVE) slugs...having a right feast...it has quite creepy & husband wouldn't touch them...I had to pick them up & put them in the bin!

Another giant one sat over the top of the front door this morning....

I shouted for middle son to come & dispatch it - but he spent 10 minutes arguing with me to get off the stairs & not watch cos I would scream and make him fall off the chair he was stood on!

I didn't scream & he didn't fall off the chair :)

Expert, attempting to give a calm assessment on the radio this morning: all spiders in this country are venomous but in this country, it's only about twelve per cent of spiders have fangs large enough to pierce human skin.

He went on to 'reassure' us that spiders don't actually hunt humans, it is more likely that they have got stuck between clothes and skin or (dear God) bed clothes and skin.

Apparently most will not bother to inject venom, they will just give a 'dry bite'.

So there we are then. Nothing to fear here.

I think I may repeal my husband's No Spaniels In The Bedroom law. She is going to have to check the bed before I get in it.

I have been checked out by a spaniel - this chap in fact..

.. on the ferry in Dublin. I don't think that spiders were high on his list of potential discoveries.

Only a very small number of spaniels can join the elite Spaniels Against Spiders (SAS) group. Others can sometimes find less challenging employment.

Mine has just dealt with two enormous beasts in the kitchen sink.

I fear that mine could never look quite that dignified. Or neat. When the spider-killer has a faraway look in her eyes, she is not thinking noble thoughts. She has either forgotten what she was chasing, or she is considering something unmentionable.

How many spiders do they have to deal with before they get a medal?
One! They only need to kill one before deserving a medal in my book, and treats, lots of treats & fuss...

We got a new rug this week, brilliant until I got it home & realised its a wonderful shade of SPIDER...I'm never going to be able to spot them on it :(

& also....if spiders don't hunt down people, then why do I keep finding them on the wall behind my head? Maybe they're attracted to my hair - like dogs!

Have you ever considered moving to Norfolk?

Wasp spiders are becoming more available there
No, I don't believe that there's anywhere in the world that's spider free :(

I suppose at least I would have a chance at spotting THAT on my rug.

Very high-altitude mountainous zones and polar regions - but only outside, they may be carried into buildings and survive and breed in there.

The open ocean is fairly spider free - but your ship won't be...
