Obviously flash mobs meet to reherse, the not meeting on the day is so that it comes totally unexpected to bystanders. The idea is to look like you just happen to be passing by at the time the event happens, and in the case of dancing usually it looks like 3 or 4 random people at the start, and then suddenly more and more people start joining in.

Regarding the statue events, it's participation that matters most... There's nothing saying that any of us wouldn't crack if someone poked us. The mention of it on the site is more to deter those that might deliberately spoil it when everyone else is trying their best. ;)

Well, 9 people voted to say they would defo be up for it, but not one has bothered to register their interest at the temporary site I put up :(
Hmmm, how strange... I've just manually checked the form entries and 8 people have registered yet it hasn't notified me by email like it should do.
I was quietly defo up for it, and one of the 8 is me. :)

It would take a bit of thought to see how eight people could confound an unsuspecting populace for sure - parsnip peeling would be my method of choice in the circumstances (two birds/one stone) - but surely more could be convinced in the interim?

Summer is almost upon us, skool's out.

I've been informed by another forum member that there is currently a 70 strong member flash mob (aimed at dancing) being formed. Although I LOVE to see dance flash mobs, I don't personally dance and neither do 2 of the other potential members of our mob... therefore ours would indeed be more of a "random acts" mob purely for self entertainment reasons. ;)
Planking at the station, freezing in Asda or the market square and parsnip peeling are all my kind of thing. As you say - it would maybe just take more thought with fewer members but would certainly be less challenging and more fun with a dozen or so more.

@Gramaisc - that clip above is hilarious!! Nice find ;)

Although I say I don't personally dance, I'd still love to be a part of something like this one...

For anyone easily amused, I've heard there's a HARLEM SHAKE happening in the market square tomorrow (saturday 23rd Feb) at 2pm prompt. Could just be a rumour, but apparently Couture has even been announcing it - so I reckon there could be a good 100 people minimum.
Those wishing to take part have been said to just hang around casually and wait till the one person kicks it off and then join in at the switch - briskly walking away as if it hasn't happened straight afterwards.

If you don't know what a harlem shake is, Jack Dee took part in one at the end of "The Last Leg" on TV this week.
This could be interesting...

I have a life. Quite a busy but happy life. Yet I still find time for anything that will make me chuckle.
As an almost famous Staffordian technician once said... "You should always find time in every day to find something amusing and laugh at it". ;)
Just being part of this forum and keeping a watch on Gramaisc's posts usually works for me :D

Sorry, not trying to say you don't. It came out wrong... Ooh er.

I meant that it sounds just like the kind of sad thing I'd do if I happened to be there at the time.

Wouldn't travel special for it like... :D
