Nobody likes seeing biscuits go to waste.

Unfortunately it looks like i'm now in competition with Tesco so i'm getting out of the A&E business before they send the bullyboys round.
Then we shall all have to mope around the civic offices looking sad in an effort to get you to change your mind. You never know it might just work.

Heard Jeremy Lefroy being interviewed on Stafford FM this afternoon. He was saying he would be sat in the A&E department form 10 tonight to assess things for himself and see if the figures added up.
Having been there myself a number of times during the night, even as an obsever I don't envy him tonight! If he sticks at it and stays through the night he might not see too much of Sunday!
Correction! I obviously meant "see too much of Saturday"......how very slack of me!

Hundreds of people signing the petition going the rounds to stop A&E closing and to prevent it being closed in future but some staff believe it will remained closed and that the hospital will be privatised.

indeed, i have heard from several medical professionals (ranging from GPs to senior nurses) for at least a year now that they are wholly convinced the hospital will close altogether, or perhaps be privatised..

in case anyone has missed it, here is the link to the petition again:

Stafford Labour Group has removed an online video in which hope is expressed that an NHS campaigner will die.
Whilst I think it's time Julie gave those now in charge at the hospital a chance to make things better and eased off a little, what she and others did in the first place, bringing the shocking truth of what was going on to people's attention and then pushing until people had to take notice and deal with it was a public service in my opinion.

To post a video such as this reflects VERY badly on Labour locally, especially considering that the Labour MP at the time didn't exactly help matters when it came to investigating the goings on at the hospital.

AT THE VERY LEAST Labour should be making a public apology and revoking the membership of the complete twat who thought this was a good idea.

Jeremy is promoting a different petition in his November email newsletter - http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/staffordhospital/ - there was a paper petition at the Common boot sale last Sunday, too..

Oh, and Health Minister Simon Burns thinks that some people who campaign for improvements in NHS services (i.e., 38 Degrees ) are 'zombie-like'..

Excellent; I was completely unaware of that website! Very well-done and professional it looks, too. Thanks for the information, Withnail. :)

I signed the petition on Saturday. I had heard it was 'non party political' so was surprised to see Labour banners on the table. But suppose parties will try and make political gain from the hospital.
So quite ironic that in trying to score political points they manage to get themselves bad publicity over this video.

Just had quick glance and it does look a good website. Who is behind it?
And to the question 'had enough of bad press' I don't think ex and star can ahev enough bad press on the hospital! They seem to be the 'Cure the NHS' pamphlet. Yet the lettes pages have had some good hospital stories - maybe the could try and balance the two.

the problem is there seems to be about 4 different petitions doing the rounds.. the one lefroy mentions is, i would imagine, hastily put together and largely useless (it's hosted by a generic american online petition company, for a start).. this will undoubtedly lead to people thinking they have signed "the petition", when in fact there is more than one and so their signature may well not count :(

Not least Lefroy himself, upon whom it seems to have dawned that this issue could sink his political career - cue much activity and presence. It may be worth reminding him of his precarious position on a regular basis.

To be fair to Mr Lefroy (good grief, did I just type that?) my impression is that he is not intending to stand at the next election. In some ways, then, that does remove the issue of personal job security from his actions. It certainly doesn't make him any more present. Nor effective. I suppose he could be said to be acting as a symbol of the Party, in the hope that voters decide that the Conservatives did more to protect their hospital? They aren't going to want to lose the constituency next time and will be well aware that they picked-up votes because some people felt that David Kidney should have done more.

interesting.. i posted the link to the http://supportstaffordhospital.co.uk/ site on my facebook, and one of my cousins from n. ireland replied:

The situation with a+e departments is getting ridiculous. We currently only have ours open 11 hours a day. Anything at night gets directed down to Belfast where one of the two biggest hospitals in the city is now permanently running without an a+e department.
yet more proof that stafford hospital is not alone, is being used as a scapegoat, and all the media hyperbole (not helped by julie "i'm not bitter, honest" bailey) is unfounded/unnecessary.. it's a nationwide problem, and we should be supporting the hospital, not slagging it off..

Mums' crusade to save the hospital

MOTHERS in Stafford have banded together in a bid to save the A&E department at the town’s hospital, as a huge public outcry into its temporary closure gathers pace.

The group, spearheaded by mother-of-four Cheryl Porter, 48, aims to increase public awareness of planned changes at the hospital and transform its fortunes through community action.
glad to see someone is making a really concerted effort to raise the profile and general opinion of the hospital - well done cheryl porter :)

Indeed, well done. However I worry that all these different petitions will take away from the impact if there was just one single huge petition.

It would be great if someone was going to collate them all and submit them as one.

That's interesting - is this something he has stated?

(The Conservatives) aren't going to want to lose the constituency next time and will be well aware that they picked-up votes because some people felt that David Kidney should have done more.
Indeed - we can but hope this gives us a bit more leverage than other affected areas. There are advantages to living in a marginal, let's hope that keeping our hospital is one of them. :)
