speaking as someone who upped sticks and moved to sheffield some years back, and now can't wait to return to the 'ford, i completely agree with this sentiement.. a lot of the things that used to bug me about stafford are now the things i miss!rich upsetter said:
this is very true.. that's exactly why i moved away - i felt like no matter how hard i tried i just wouldn't be able to get out of my rut if i stayed in stafford.. in fact, come to think of it, i know quite a few people who moved away for basically the same reason..noir2985 said:My main problem with Stafford is that it always felt very insular, like no one was really going anywhere or doing anything which was a bit depressing. It's nice to come back because after all it is home but I don't think I'll ever regret having left. As you say though, people make the place, maybe a better group of friends would have been better.
that is conjouring up some fairly painful images.. lucky ford! lolBBC said:you can't take the ford out of the boy....
yeah! thats me too.dirtybobby said:- i felt like no matter how hard i tried i just wouldn't be able to get out of my rut if i stayed in stafford.. in fact, come to think of it, i know quite a few people who moved away for basically the same reason..
i'm glad i moved away, but i'll be even more glad when i come back
can't say i have, but i know a few people who used to be in a marching band when they were a bit younger, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have caused you aural woe at some stage!noir2985 said:Does anyone ever hear some marching band practicing at Graham Balfour on a Sunday? They raise my blood pressure.
in that case, it probably was them.. i mean, how many marching bands can one town have?? lol.. i know a girl who played the french horn, and some fat kid from penkridge who banged a big firkin drum.. neither of which, i can imagine, would provide much joy when played down your ear 'ole on a sunday morningnoir2985 said:I don't think it's people who actually attend Balfour...though I'm not sure. It's horrible, it's like assault on my brain in the mornings...and into the afternoon. I always feel as though it's payment for something bad I did.
i remember reading about this in the newsletter at some point.noir2985 said:I don't think it's people who actually attend Balfour...though I'm not sure. in that case, you're definitely amongst friendsnoir2985 said:I think I just like complaining
wait - how can you play "amazing grace" on church bells you'd need, like, 12 bells and remarkable hand-to-bell co-ordinationcookie_monster said:i get miffed when the church by me starts their bellringing practise on a sunday morning- amazing grace has ceased to be a favourite of mine now its been murdered by them.
dude, i have no idea- im usually trying to ignore it.dirtybobby said:wait - how can you play "amazing grace" on church bells you'd need, like, 12 bells and remarkable hand-to-bell co-ordination
to be honest, it was just a guess lol.. 12 notes is a full octave innit, so i figured one could at least get some semblance of a tune out of 12 bells! at least the theme tune to eastenders, or something..cookie_monster said:dude, i have no idea- im usually trying to ignore it.dirtybobby said:wait - how can you play "amazing grace" on church bells you'd need, like, 12 bells and remarkable hand-to-bell co-ordination
