Cuffy is the new skill
ive got loads of mates who upped sticks and left the hallowed streets of stafford thinking the streets were paved with gold elsewhere, but being left on me todd meant over the years ive met loads of new friends who stuck it out and make it all good in the ford. everyone knows that stafford aint got much to offer in terms of going out, entertainment wise but its the peeps left who make living here what it is. *chokes back tears of pride*

-edit-
except for the meatheads who just want to beat people up in a "do you know who i am" vein.

My main problem with Stafford is that it always felt very insular, like no one was really going anywhere or doing anything which was a bit depressing. It's nice to come back because after all it is home but I don't think I'll ever regret having left. As you say though, people make the place, maybe a better group of friends would have been better.

You knows it
pros? well i haven't got time to list them all now because there are quite literally hundreds!!

cons? well there is only one surely!

speaking as someone who upped sticks and moved to sheffield some years back, and now can't wait to return to the 'ford, i completely agree with this sentiement.. a lot of the things that used to bug me about stafford are now the things i miss!

this is very true.. that's exactly why i moved away - i felt like no matter how hard i tried i just wouldn't be able to get out of my rut if i stayed in stafford.. in fact, come to think of it, i know quite a few people who moved away for basically the same reason..

i'm glad i moved away, but i'll be even more glad when i come back

you can take the boy out the ford, but you can't take the ford out of the boy....

yeah! thats me too.

but i love where i am now. like ive said before, i appreciate stafford more now ive left....but its appreciation of the people i love who are there, not because of the place itself.

i dont want to come back, but it is quite nice to have 2 homes.

Does anyone ever hear some marching band practicing at Graham Balfour on a Sunday? They raise my blood pressure.

can't say i have, but i know a few people who used to be in a marching band when they were a bit younger, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have caused you aural woe at some stage!

saying that, they weren't affiliated with graham balfour as far as i know, so maybe not..

I don't think it's people who actually attend Balfour...though I'm not sure. It's horrible, it's like assault on my brain in the mornings...and into the afternoon. I always feel as though it's payment for something bad I did.

in that case, it probably was them.. i mean, how many marching bands can one town have?? lol.. i know a girl who played the french horn, and some fat kid from penkridge who banged a big firkin drum.. neither of which, i can imagine, would provide much joy when played down your ear 'ole on a sunday morning :grr:

i remember reading about this in the newsletter at some point.

the band isnt part of balfour, they just use the fields for their practise sessions.

i feel a bit sorry for them- at least theyre off the streets and doing something constructive with their time....but i totally get where the residents are coming from at the same time.

lets face it, marching band music isnt to everybodys taste (i imagine its fairly limited from that point of view) and being as its a sunday...thats got to be a complete ballache when youve got the hangover from hell and just want to watch the stenders omnibus in peace and quiet. i know if i lived near there, i probably wouldnt be as understanding. i get miffed when the church by me starts their bellringing practise on a sunday morning- amazing grace has ceased to be a favourite of mine now its been murdered by them.

but then if theyre not at balfour...where can they go? or maybe the residents can ask for requests so at least they hear music they like?

maybe the chase can be public spirited offer up a bit of land in the middle of nowhere where they cant disturb anybody?

Hehe. That's definately a fair point. Yeah as you say it's nice that people do stuff like that...keeps them out of trouble...I think I just like complaining! Bloody noise pollution.

wait - how can you play "amazing grace" on church bells :?: you'd need, like, 12 bells and remarkable hand-to-bell co-ordination :haw:

to be honest, it was just a guess lol.. 12 notes is a full octave innit, so i figured one could at least get some semblance of a tune out of 12 bells! at least the theme tune to eastenders, or something..
