Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

I don't know whether anyone's mentioned this in other posts. It looks like the council have come up with another plan to get more shoppers/visitors into the town centre.
I parked in the car park under the old civic centre yesterday, went to put my £2-40 in the machine for 3 hours parking ( as I did just over a week ago) only to find that the price has increased to £3 & its now £3-50 for 4 hours. What was a short stay car park, maximum 4 hours, is now a variable stay park with a maximum charge of £8 for 24 hours. It was previously free to park on Sundays, there's now a charge of £1-50 for the day. More revenue for the council when all those drivers that aren't aware get a nice parking fine this Sunday

We had similar at Sainsbury's yesterday. Put £1.50 in to get 2 hours parking, checked ticket to make sure the date/time were correct, and discovered we'd only got an hours parking as it was now £1.60 for two hours. And then the Sainsbury's cashier would only refund £1 as he'd apparently been told that's all he could refund. I expect we weren't the only ones to fall victim and some may not have checked their tickets before going off for 2 hours.

'Could' only refund the £1, as its set by Stafford council who own the carpark, not Sainsburys. :(

Paying for parking, combined with really bad traffic is why I almost never go into Stafford town centre. Luckily some shops there realise this, I buy my games from Shogun mail order, the delivery is still cheaper than parking, fuel and time wasted going into Stafford.

Go to Birmingham or Manchester and pay to park if you really want to moan about the prices.

I paid £20 to park for 12 hours in Manchester.
There are a lot cheaper car parks in Manchester than that. And there are a couple more shops than in Stafford
