Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

All you need is a sell out show at the gatehouse (comedy shows often do that) + something big at the show ground + a delegation visiting something like perkins, or a big wedding and that's it. Add in usual rooms going to visiting people, or people stopping off as they do long drives and suddenly Stafford runs out of hotel rooms pretty quickly.
They had planned the ibis but we got a gym. They had plans for a premier inn in the old council building/job centre in town but that seems to have disappeared.

Been to town to spend pennies today. Waterstones, the fruit shop, super drug, and Marks & Spencer were the only shops with anything we needed. Did buy Christmas ribbon in the market. Seemed quite busy and the market square looks lovely. Felt more festive than I was expecting. Just needs some more shops and it could rise like a phoenix.... or not!

Ahhh but Tillington is demolished, and we're a long way from Alton towers....not much to see or do here apart from family visits
What about…

THE CAT EXTRAVAGANZA!! ?

Tons of cat owners shedding it around town

Cat Hotels already full

Bingley Hall

Problem these days is many people want chain stores but others want independent businesses that are unique to a town. A mixture of both would be good. There's lots of risk averse people who wouldn't go into a small local cafe, much prefer something with a big brand name on it.

People going to Costa or Starbucks rather than the independent cafes a couple of minutes away is something I'll never comprehend.

A teacher at school once told me that he thought his young kid had learnt to read. He would know which shop they were going into say its name. But he recognised the logos, he wasn't reading them. Just shows the power of logos. People who go to chains go there for a consistent experience, they aren't adventurous and/or do not handle disappointment well.

Some places can be a bit pokey and make people feel a little uncomfortable. Big spaces, large windows etc are more inviting. It's important to get that right and not pack too much into a shop.

This this and this. I don't remember the last time I had no alternative but to use them. I'd rather not bother. Personally couldn't care about big windows in cafes belonging to companies avoiding tax!

I've had a theory for a while, that Hyundai may have piggybacked on Honda's marketing around twenty years ago, when they were just getting going.

Not only were the logos similar...

... but, model names for each market sector had distinct similarities.

Ballade - Sonata

Accord - Accent

Jazz - Getz

Etc.

Costa weren't tax dodgers like Starbucks, although Coca Cola took them over so who knows now.

It's not just about looking into the coffee shop, it's about looking out of it as well when you're sitting inside :)

ALDI get in trouble for making their stuff too similar to branded goods.

And you don't think independents will be doing that? 🤔😂

The Toyota logo is actually a needle and thread

Its much harder for an independent to do, with multinationals you just find creative ways to move the money to countries that don't mind you not paying.

It's pretty simple, they register their brand names and other IP in a tax haven and then each franchise store has to licence it.
