Stafford Traffic.

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.
Well those temporary traffic lights at the Blackheath Lane/Tixall Rd junction seem to have totally screwed things up if you are trying to travel from north to south. I also see that they're digging up West Way (though I don't know how long for). So basically if you want to get from the North end to the Weeping Cross/Wildwood end by there is now no alternative other than to sit in traffic or not bother.

Madness.

And before I get the predictable 'go by bike you lazy git' from the same old same old, it's not that easy to ride a bike whilst balancing 3 cases of very sensitive technical equipment. If I were doing the route for leisure reasons though I would definitely go by bike.

They could at least sort out St Thomas Lane, make it two way.

It's one way due to a small bit of roadworks which could be fenced off much better, meaning you could at least get around it when the other lane is clear. It's actually the way I would go home on my bike too, since I don't like riding up Black Heath Lane at rush hour.

The traffic last night was the worst ever, it comes to something when it's easier to get on the M6 and get off at jct 13 to get to Baswich from Beaconside.

Yesterday it took 1 hour and 5 minutes from weeping cross to the station at 11am. I missed the train, the next train and just about made the one after!

Could you not have made this journey by foot or bike, thereby single handedly reducing the traffic and saving yourself a lot of stress? Would have been quicker as well..........

Or maybe got a seatie off somebody you know who owns a bike or sat in the front basket with a blanket on like an oversized ET? Theres a gap in the market for this kind of travel. All you bicycle riders could make a killing.

Could be an improvement to the school run, too.

Bikes are made from rubber and metal

Metal has to be mined

Rubber has to be processed

Walking naked is the most green way to travel

Except the Europeans gaol anyone in the nuddie

A few posts under my belt
I haven't been out today, after the trauma of yesterday morning, but Sandon Road seems strangely quiet - perhaps they just can't get here?
I downloaded and read the Stafford plan.
Sandon road is planned to take traffic from new beacon side housing developments. Sounds crazy, the road is bottleneck near to the town. This decision was made because evidence showed the A34 and the A518 cannot take increased traffic load, so it will be aimed at Sandon road.

These county and borough traffic planners work for us, a fact that seems to be missed by them. We should be able to review their qualifications to confirm they are competent to hold their posts.

Watch the video in this link, this is the way to get people cycling. Unfortunatly Stafford will neve look like this!

There is absolutely no reason this couldn't happen in Stafford; it just takes a bit of political will. Imagine living in a town where cycling was safe and a pleasure.............!

It would however require a change in the mindset of the people of Stafford, and that I fear is the biggest hurdle, People here are lazy. Instead of cycling, they'd rather moan about the traffic, instead of cycling they'd rather drive to the work, instead of cycling they'd rather get fat and then go to weight-watchers. There has to be a change in people's psyche about cycling and traffic in general, not just a redesign of our urban planning...........although that would be a wonderful start. :)

Stafford's only plan is to rake in as much council tax as possible by building new houses. Whether Sandon road is a bottleneck doesn't matter much, because Beaconside will be solid and traffic won't be able to get out of the new estates.
