Only ideas I can come up with;

- Beaconside - convert to dual carriageway - likely couldn't happen now with all the homes being built, may have helped with creation of an eastern bypass by continuing Beaconside passed fire station to Tixall Road (to avoid Blackheath Lane / A518) then continue it along and join at Milford / Shugborough.

- Newport Road - add connection to M6 - may reduce traffic going through town center to reach north / south junctions.

- Convert to one way - Eccleshall Road north and Stone Road south.

- New road joining Castletown and Doxey - move traffic away from town center (avoid Station Rd / Tesco).

- New road between A449 at Acton Gate to A34 around Seven Stars pub - move traffic away from town center.

Many of these do have lanes / rat runs already but rely on local knowledge, without looking at map I have no idea how to do the latter (Mill Lane to Acton Hill Rd).
Acton Trussell lanes were closed off with barriers a few weeks ago as well on the A449 / Jct 13 area when we went to B'ham airport a few weeks ago !

Is the the inbound diverson along the A34 in place now,as advertised on boards to start on 24th September? (Got a dentist appointment at 8am to tomorrow...)

Even when going on foot , the pavements are closed off down the A34 by the new Aldi that's being built ... seems just because they can  (causing more traffic having to stop the traffic on the pedestian crossings 4 times to cross over and back each way.)

No. Start date has been put back to Monday 26th.

Cheers for that :)

Do you know where diversion is going when it starts ?
Diversion starts at the turn off for the Hough. You have to go past the Hough, round to the bank and across the lights to Riverway if you are going into town. Out of town is as normal.

Irish motorways are a bit quieter - this is a Mandatory Alcohol Test checkpoint on the M1 this morning.

I don't see this tactic catching on around here...

Yes, assuming the North is the same as England/Wales.

It's currently 80 here - 50 in the Republic, as in the rest of Europe, apart from Malta - but a mere 20 for new* licence holders and 'professional' drivers.

* For the first year, I think.

Anyone know what's happening on the Tixall Road?

Went out yesterday and it was all clear - just been out and there's Road Closed signs by Cull Avenue for traffic heading out of town on the Tixall Road, and more at the other end at the crossroads by the crem for traffic heading towards town?

All the signs say access to frontages, but no idea where the actual closure is/will be so don't know which way I can/will be able to get back in to Kingston Hill from... just looped around via Baswich Lane/St Thomas lane without problem, which is making me wonder if it's something to do with the new houses being built up between St Thomas Lane and the crem

Someone really does need shooting for this.

Although there are signs across the outbound side of the road at Cull Avenue giving the impression that the road ahead is completely shut, that is not the case and those signs are just going to cause mayhem, blocking that lane, at rush hour.

In actual fact, Tixall Road is ONLY closed AFTER the junction to St Thomas Lane. (ie it is closed to traffic who want to travel between St Thomas Lane, past the crematorium and as far as the traffic lights at the Blackheath Lane junction). So for anyone heading towards Baswich the road is completely open. And for anyone wanting to go to Tixall, simply turn down St Thomas Lane then turn left up Blackheath Lane to the lights and voila!

This is prize fcukwittery.

I think the work on this stretch of Tixall Road is short term and will be finished tonight..... let's see

Together with continued temp lights on Radford Bank/Queensville, that should make for a nice, delay free run.
I've just been through the new one-way Lichfield Road arrangement - not really any worse outbound than we've come to think of as "normal" in recent years, but total stagnation inbound - I used Baswich Lane, when I finally got the chance....

Im stuck in it as we speak. Absolute joke someone needs knocking the feck out.
Still fecking solid from B&Q at 7.30pm going into down on the A34.

Turned around and drove to J13, got off at J14 and got to Tenpin far quicker than attempting to go anywhere near the town centre. Should be OK to go home on the A34 southbound though as, like @Gramaisc said earlier that is running reasonably smoothly at off-peak times.

I mistakenly thought the bloke was supposed to be sat there controlling the lights to keep it flowing better. Might as well not bother sitting there and let the lights change automatically themselves after a set time!
I've walked past twice every day lately .As well as the one time he'd gone to sleep as I went past, he's always been sitting reading his newspaper . A few times he's been completely oblivious (or completely not bothered) of the fact the queue of traffic driving through the one way has now cleared and no more traffic has approached those green lights for quite a time.So the traffic the other way has been sitting on a red light for longer than needed.
If the bloke sitting there actually took a bit of interest in the traffic situation , he might not get so bored as to have to read papers and nod off.

Also noticed that once past the Radford Bank roadworks and approaching Silkmore Lane, the pelican crossings are still set to go to red at set times to let an empty Silkmore Lane out ........ so again traffic sat held up for nothing

Where is this man @staffordjas ?

I quite often drive down Radford Bank, coming from the A34 Wildwood direction. The lights seem to change every 3 minites (I have timed them), but I have never seen a man?

Is he further up towards Milford?
