The first speed hump I ever encountered was on the access road to the Poly, when it was in and out onto Beaconside. It was in the form of black rubber discs, about the size of dustbin lids, mounted on a flat steel chain, like a rope ladder. this was stretched across the road and there were small gaps between the discs, to allow motorcycles and pushbikes to squeeze through carefully, without the hump aspect, but still being slowed down by the amount of care necessary to do that successfully.rubber speed humps...
I commented that somebody must have been up early that morning, to fit it, only to be told that it was there the night before - I had whizzed down the hill in my usual style and had, presumably, just happened to run through the gap...
I never saw a thing.
